Turbo's on stock cars in California
I hope this is the right place to put this, but I was wondering what kind of turbo is in BMW 3 series, and volvo's, and porsches etc. I thought turbo's are not carb legal so what are they using?
I just heard someone say the BMW 3 series has twin turbo and not even a "glorified Z" (meaningG35) can beat it... kinda made me mad. p.s. this was the video I was watching...read the comments on it. |
factory turbos are not illegal.. also has a lot to do with the tune and stuff. The twin turbo 3 series is pretty fast.. a stock g35 most likely will not beat it.
|
so some turbo's are legal, just they dont make one for the G35 (yet?).
|
They do, the greddy twin turbos are street legal.

greddy kits are carb legal for certain cars but not on g35/350z. |
I HATE CALIFORNIA! Sorry I just had to put that out there...
|
I love California.
|
I hate californian car laws.... the tints, the turbos, the emissions, the front plates, etc. etc.
|
At this point, there are no CARB exempt twin turbo kits for the G35/350z. The closest so far has been the JWT TT kit. They have been trying to get CARB exemption for a couple of years now unsuccessfully.

jwt said they arent going to do it its not worth the time and money to fight with the state. (a source from jwt said so)
factory turbos are legal any aftermarket turbo is NOT legal. They are not legal because you have to adjust the timing and exhaust manifolds which are not legal to do in CA. Youre much safer off getting a supercharger than turbo. cops hate the whole TURBO word. :thewave: |
