Help me make sure I'm not missing anything...

I'm going forced induction and have the following parts on the way:

Vortech V2 tuner kit + 3.12 pulley
Osiris Tuner w/ HPX maf
Walbro pump
DW 600cc injectors
Innovate Wideband
Boost and Fuel pressure gauge

I wish to buy a transmission oil cooler ( tomorrow I'll get that ) but not a valve body upgrade just yet. I'm shooting for high 300's or 400 max for the moment while I get together a forged engine and then go higher.

Am I missing something that I've overlooked?

looks good

How long will the stock auto tranny hold up to that level of hp?

bigc Apr 4, 2010 02:22 PM

install the transmission cooler and upgrade the valve body before installing the supercharger. a bigger radiator, higher flowing fans, and an oil cooler are also good ideas. what do u have for exhaust mods?

The tranny cooler is a given and I'm getting one of those without a doubt, the valve body is way to expensive for what it does and right now I don't think it's really needed for my current goals ( I know a good deal about automatics fwiw ). If my car has trouble keeping cool then I'll upgrade the radiator but that can wait for now.

As for exhaust, I have the stock exhaust with test pipes.

you're welcome to do what you want, but its much easier to do the cooling upgrades (specifically radiator & fans) before the blower goes in.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate your advice but in theory my car would also benefit from the install of a built engine, a built tranny and every single mod in existence in one shot as it would be easier to do it all at once instead of little by little, but I'm also trying to do it on a budget at this moment. ;)

Right now I'm working more on what my car "NEEDS" and later on I will work on what I "WANT". I opened the original topic in hopes that I may not be overlooking something.

Thanks though for all your suggestions and won't mind reading more suggestions.

Having gone ProCharged on a stock tranny and then needing a new transmission after 3,000 miles... I would do the valve body first, or at the same time of the supercharger install. If not, I would not enter boost too often, never in 1st gear, and shift at 5500RPMs max. You will not be able to fully enjoy your car until you get the VB upgraded. It is expensive, but getting a new tranny + VB will be even more expensive... not to mention the VB will not fixed an already damaged or slipping tranny for prolonged FI abuse...

AmateuRN Apr 5, 2010 12:08 AM

This is going to sting a little... but I would keep your list as is, but substitute the Vortech for a VB upgrade... then go back and buy the SC when you get your funds back up.

GT-ER Apr 5, 2010 12:10 AM

What happened to your transmission? What broke? Why do you think a VB upgrade would have saved it? I rarely read anyone having any trouble with these transmission so it's kinda interesting yours only lasted 3000 miles.

FWIW...I would rebuild my own tranny so if it WERE to break it would only cost me whatever the parts would costs.

Also, I already have the vortech.

AmateuRN Apr 5, 2010 12:25 AM

The "cardboard" clutch packs started slipping... 3rd went.. which, according to my tuner (and dealer who replaced it) at the time, was the most common in these. You rarely see issues because they are awesome when you stay NA, and when people go FI they normally upgrade the trans also....

urban Apr 5, 2010 01:50 AM

Mine started slipping once I went over 400 with the Vortech, by that time I had already put 20,000 miles on the kit which may sound like a lot but I do 25,000 miles a year. I would def. do a VB first if you are aiming for 400hp.

But it is up to you.

maybe look into a fuel return kit, maybe stage 0. If you plan to build out and make more power, might make sense to use an FI platform that can support that? unless you plan on stripping the vortech and strapping on a twin system later on. I figured it'd make sense to do that now and maybe just crank up the boost later.

Who tunes Osiris here in Puerto Rico?
I also have a Vortech tuner kit to install but do not know if staying with my UTEC and flash my ecu to the 600cc injectors or going with Osiris.

GT-ER Apr 6, 2010 07:52 AM

I'm going to tune it myself.I've done it for other cars I've owned so I doubt I'll have a problem, just hope the software isn't too weird...lol
