Supercharges 5AT G's which one first..... valve body or torque convt
Im getting my vorthec s/c pretty soon but wondering which one should i do first (for now) stillen valve body for 900.00 or torque converter at some shop at santee for 1200.00 (installed, i think). Oh, and its my DAily Driver.
Also, any comments / suggestions / tips on installing the vortech on a 5AT? imma order the gates belt and arc pan so i dont have to drill the hole on my block <~~~ scary though! any imput would be nice. Thanks !! :D |
Well I haven't done any yet but just wanted to let you know that you would probably want to get the limited flash first and that is now only 345.00. That us what I just did and then next is the VB.

valve body!
the reason I saw this is because the improved valve body will quicken and firm up shifts, therefore generating less heat in the tranny. Any auto trans shop will tell you that heat kills auto trannies! Later, get a torque convertor if you want. the convertor will only helps your accelleration from a a stop or just off idle. once, you've hit 2000 rpms, you'll most likely not see any kinf of difference. If drag racing is in your future, a higher stall convertor shoulde be considered. For street driving, it'll be a personal choice. |
get the Torque converter done with a higher stall, say about 3500-4000. If you're going to do a lot of drag racing, this will help you most at the christmas tree; allowing you to hold more boost on the line.

get both.but if you have to choose TC

cool thanks. more questions
here's my plan on modding the car, see if you can ghive any suggestions or addition on which one should come first or if do i really need it this modd (trying not to spend too much $$$) just want to be safe . thanks 1. install vortech (arc oil pan and trans cooler 5AT) 2. gauges (wideband aem, turbotimer, fuel or oil pressure) 3. techosquare reflash 4. valve body 5 tune everything and dyno. I really appreciate your comments and suggestions guys! Thanks Much! |
Turbo timer on a SC....not really sure you need to go that far, I have one on my 3000gt but its a TT, I don't think it is that neccessary for a SC.

I'd do the VB before the TS flash. Nice to have your tranny handle the extra added TQ power. Better safe than sorry.
|
The valve body wasnt out when I did my TC . I wish it would have been . If it was , I wouldnt have done one with out the other . Why pay for the labor of pulling the tranny twice
|
valve body is all that is "needed" if that word even applies...
stock 5AT power-holding capabilities = 350hp flywheel post VB upgrade 5AT power-holding = 450+ whp and too high a stall speed (anything over 2800rpms, imo) will only = broken axles... |
guess I was wrong on having to drop the tranny for the valve body . Thought you had to.....my bad
|
I say Torque converter. It's what powers the driveshaft from the engine and takes the brunt of all abuse. You don't want that to be your weakest link. QuadCam makes a very good point about the valve body reducing heat in the transmission with quicker shifts, which is true. But unless you're going to the track, you'll probably be stoplight racing or screaming down the highway and leveraging more abuse to the torque converter.
If you can, try to do both at once. It'll save you the hassle and cost of modifying the transmission on two separate occasions and you'll be good to go with your setup. |
thanks for the responces !

SGP racing has a racing auto for our car (they rebuild it) to withstand upwards of 800HP, and who knows how much torque. So, actually there IS something on the market for 5ATs. Also, the Speed Force guys have some contacts that do auto trans reinforcement, which I think is what Tinman did. . .the guy built up the tranny on Keith Ta's uberhigh horsepower supra. Anyway, just some food for thought. Of course, you must realise that when you bullet proof your engine, and then your trans, you are just going to start breaking drive shafts, diffs and axles. Hmmm. . .although there ARE 500HP and 800HP axles available for our car already. Anyway, I'm sure there's more. . .yadda yadda.
