The Official "What gas are you using and how much" thread

i use mid grade cause of gas prices...should be using premium..around 35$ a tank

what about everyone else?..

and does premium make the gas last longer?? or what does it do to a coupe?

You're supposed to use premium.

Our compression ratio is 10.6:1, which is pretty high and the vehicle will run better on 91-93 octane fuel. Anything more than that is just overkill and won't do anything since all you need is enough octane to prevent detonation without the car having to back off the timing a few degrees to do so.

No, Premium (91,93) is simply the highest octane you can buy at the usual corner gas pump. VQ35's are mapped for 91 octane. Anything lower can cause your engine to knock and perform worse. No, premium wont last longer. You are not necessarily hurting your engine unless you do hear knocking, and lots of knocking can lead to detonation, AKA, your motor will blow like Paris Hilton in her night vision sex tape

Average price for premium 91 octane here in the Bay Area is about 3.35-3.45 /gallon. I've been filling up about $50+ a tank

Maybe a silly question but, Knocking is different than pinging, right?
You scared me with that analogy.

I gotta say the gas prices are killing us. In philly it is about 3.40 a gallon and a full tank runs about $56 dollars or so. I hate to break the bad news, but just today BP announced that it had to shut down part of the alaska pipe line which supplies the US with about 12% of its full. The paper said that fuel prices are going to rise at least another 10-12 cents per gallon if not more

if you use 89 octane it doesnt effect anything except maybe a tiny bit of performance. Our engines have enough new technology that 89 octane wont hurt it.

Think if it this way. You may have to pay a few more dollars extra per fillup by using 91 octane, but that's like giving up a coke or coffee every so often. But, not only that, by using 91 octane, it will keep the car running better so that in the long run, you won't have to worry about other mechanical problems.
Preventative maintenance starts as soon as you get your car.

Lets put this in perspective...We use 91 right...56-65 bucks for a fill up...My tundra with 89 mid grade....Fills up at 70-75 but will go thru the tank a lot faster. Imagine the other SUV owners...Yikes...

I tend to never fill up so the car is lighter (lighter = fast acceleration) i always put in a half tank of shell v-power. I like both shell and chevron both are the same to me i just prefer the shell name. usually put in 9 gallons and cost me 30 dollars. The only time i fill up is when i am going to orlando from sarasota...
