"Premium Package" -- Who Doesn't Have It?
Looking to purchase a 2006 G35 6MT. After looking at one with the "Premium Package" I'm kind of considering one without the package.
Power glass sliding sunroof Bose premium audio system with 8 speakers, AM/FM/cassette, and in-dash, single-slot 6-disc CD autochanger Bluetooth Hands-Free Phone System 2-position memory system for driver's seat and steering wheel Power tilt and telescoping steering wheel Dual-zone Automatic Temperature Control Auto-on/off headlights Automatic anti-glare rearview mirror HomeLink Universal Transceiver I don't really care if it has a sunroof or not -- I think the car actually looks better without a sunroof. I guess I can do without all the electronic toys included in the Premium Package. In fact, I kind of like some of the functions to be manual and not electric -- ie, telescoping/tilt steering wheel, rear view mirror dimming. Auto on/off headlights ... who cares?! ... let me control the car some. ;) Only thing I don't like is that you have to have the Premium Package to get the "Rear Active Steering Package" which I would like to have with the 6MT. Anyone know why this is ?? Comments? PS -- the dealer just called me and says 6MT Coupes without the Premium Package is hard to get. |
I got mine without the Premium Package...I didn't think the price tag was worth it...minus the sunroof.

A G35 without a sun roof? No thank you!

I never knew what the premium package had those options. I bought mine just thinking i was missing the sunroof as compared to other models. I feel the basic model is plentiful enough of options. Some of the extra gadgets i dont' feel i will even really use or benefit from. Also it seems like the basic audio system is very sufficient as compared with my friend's with the bose.

I have a sedan (with no premium pacakge, but I DO have a sunroof), but after listening to the Bose in the loner I had, i think the non-Bose sounds better. Weird, I know!
I think that you can get Rear Active Steering Package without the premium package, I just remember seeing that on the window sticker at the dealer. The few toys are fun to have, but it's what you want. |

Maybe the Premium Package computer somehow incorporates the control for the Rear Steering mechanism. Not really sure, and the dealer couldn't answer that. One thing I like about the Rear Steering Package is that the steering is vehicle speed sensitive, not engine speed sensitive which is what it is without the Rear Steering Package. |
i dont have prem package..the only thing i want from prem pack is the memory seats lol

exactly... I just got my '06 G and it doesn't have the premium pkg... only thing I miss is the memory seats. Whether that is worth the $3k or whatever to you is your call :) |
I ordered and waited just over two months so I could get my '05 IP/Stone 6MT without Premium or a sunroof.
I wanted plenty of headroom, which the hardtop provides. I've read of others lowering the seat for more headroom. Not an issue for me at all and I'm 6'1". Pretty much in the desert here, so full-open has always been seldom on prevvious cars, and that big chunk of glass retains and transmits a lot of heat. The little pull-shade can only do so much. I wanted the lightest, stiffest 6MT G coupe I could get. While she's still heavy, she does save at least a couple of hundred pounds over most other coupes without stripping the interior. A good starting point for the G-coupe owner who still appreciates the abscence of added weight. Stiff! At first, I was shocked so many people complain about body-roll, as my coupe is the flattest-handling OEM car I've driven, and I've owned/driven some nice ones (granted, never driven ultra-exotics). And then, as all of the sunroof rattle/pop complaints rolled in, I remembered the key difference between our coupes. This better structural integrity was a prime reason for skipping the sunroof. The benefit of the hardtop seems greater than I would have figured on such a new car, but there you have it. FWIW, the NISMO sways took it to whole other level. :D The car is packed with luxury, so I'm not missing anything during my daily driving. While there are some times that I would like to be able to crack a sunroof open for a little additional airflow, in reality fixing the hot air entering the floorboard area would eliminate the need and desire. I'm really happy with my choice. While it would be neat to have the Nav. for easy MPG calculations, the Nav. wouldn't be very usefull in my area. It would have run me an additional $4K for that little convenience. FWIW, I never really calculate my MPG unless there is an on-board option to do so. It's not that important to me. For most, the two added packages are nice options to have and aren't all that much more. For me, they offered very little of what I wanted and a lot of stuff I didn't want, for a hefty price. In fact, the options I'd most care for wouldn't be used (memory seats & Homelink... ...nobody else drives my car and the Homelink won't work on my model of Wayne Dalton garage-door openers). Get what it is you want and you'll be happy. If cost and performance aren't as important to you as the bling-factor, then you might as well get one fully loaded. |
If you live in the North East you only need to use the seat heater ONCE to realize you HAVE to have the premium package. Plus its good for warming up your date without her knowing it. LOL!!!

Everything I've read on the options (brochure and on Infiniti's website -- and the salesman confirmed) says you have to have the Premium Package and the Sport Suspension package to get the Rear Steering Package. Of course the 6MT automatically comes with the Sport Suspension, so if the car was an automatic it would have to have the Sport Suspension & Premium Package to have the Rear Steering Package. If you go to Infiniti’s website and “build your own car" you will see what I’m talking about. I have it with the sunroof and no premium package. The sunroof isn't $1600, though, it's around $1000-1200. The basic package features are still nicer than you'll get in a lot of new cars with upgrade packages. You DO in fact have heated seats with the basic, so ignore the comment about needing the premium package based upon that. If you don't feel like you absolutely need any of the things they list in there, my advice would be to skip the premium. You may have difficulty finding the specific color/options combo without it, though. |

You are right about finding one without the Premium Package. I've already had the dealer run finds on all the cars in this area and there are none without the Premium Package. Would almost have to order it that way around here it seems. |
Heated seats are standard on all models.
And ordering wasn't such a bad deal for me. I had one dealer tell me they would discount any ordered car by $1500 off MSRP and another that gave me $1750 off MSRP (back when nearly any '05 6MT was rare). That was with no real negotiation attempt on my part. I got what I wanted in the color combo I wanted. Sure, I waited about 2 months for it, but I also got a fresh 6MT with only 13 miles on it... ...which is as few as you'll get. If you can take the wait, give it some thought. It'll give you time to accumulate some parts. ;) |
