Do the early G35's have the same issues as the 350z?
 

I know the 2003 and early 2004 350z have had a lot of problems with tire feathering, and transmission failures. I was wondering, seeing they share the same platform, if the G35 also has this problem.

I'm not an owner, but I've repeatedly read that the early G35s have more problems than later ones. I've read mostly about brakes and tires in the past. Don't remember anything about transmissions--which one, anyway?

Probably still far from troublesome. The Internet can make problem rates seem much higher than they actually are. My research will help with this.

Can any owners comment?

I have an 03 6MT Coupe and I have had only 1 issue and that was with the fuel filler. Tires have 26,000 on them (Mich Pilot Sports) Bremboes have 26K on them, etc. No issues whatsoever.

From what I remember, almost all of the G's have some form of feathering. This, if I remember, is caused by our aggressive toe-in of the camber? In any case, the 03-04's (non-Brembo's) had some permature wear on their brakes as well. I think in general, the earlier models had more problems but nothing like what this forum will lead you to believe. Remember, people here tend to rant on about how bad "our" cars are when they should have said "my" car. People don't post here saying how great their axle is but will post "I keep hearing this clicking noise" instead of doing a research and makes it look like every ten posts there is a problem with the axle clicking.

Anywho, the only lingering problem I have is that my driver seat creaks and the dealer can't seem to fix it (they even replaced the entire chair). It isn't that bad at all but I thought I would see if they can make it go away. So, I just turn on the music and ignore it.

That is true as well. I had the feathering but the tires are still on the car at 26K. Interestingly enough, I agressively autox'd the car this summer and it chewed up the tires pretty good. Enough to erase the feathering and now they are quiet again. I will be replacing them soon though.

Does feathering cause that low speed noise from the tires?

Yes. I actually took mine to the dealer for wheel bearing check. It was the tires.
