aren't 07 g's the third generation g sedan?
everyone,
wouldn't 03-06 g sedans be second generation? i recall infiniti having a boxy little sedan called a g20 in the late 90's. am i wrong? |

well thats the 2nd gen g20.. theres another one that looks like that b4 it but wasnt as "refined".. LOL but completely different cars than the g35 sedans... those g20's were tiny lil 4 cylinders

I agree with the OP. A "G" is a G. So they upgraded to a six cyl, still a G.
G20 is to IS 250 as G35 is to IS350, well kind of...you get the point. |

G20 is to IS 250 as G35 is to IS350, well kind of...you get the point. The G20 and G35 share three things in common: They are both rebadged Nissan products. They both have a fancy clock. They both have a G in their respective names. The 07 is a the second generation for this model, if you don't count the JDM Skyline product which pre-dates the current V35/36. That being said, I consider the G35 Coupe (Skyline 350GT coupe) to be more of a spiritual successor to the 300ZX 2+2, than the Skyline coupe. Perhaps it's something in between as it shares attributes of both of those cars. |

G20 was a Nissan Almera; a completely different car, FWD and based on the Sentra/Bluebird chassis.
The 03-06 G35 was based on the first iteration of the FM platform and was the V35 version of the Nissan Skyline. The 07+ G35/G37 are based on the second iteration of that platform and is the V36 Skyline. |
all points acknowledged, but there are many cars that go through body and engine cylinder configurations and are still considered the same car...mustangs, pontiac f bodies, lotus esprits, supras (especially supras since they started as 4 cylinder celica supras) etc.
i'm not being smart or trying to make a point, just curious as to everyones opinion on the matter. |

If they're both G's, then the current M is the 3rd. The first was a coupe and convertible. And that would be quite a stretch.
I do have to wonder why they reused G instead of J, which would have been a more logical choice. The J shared some powertrain and chassis bits with the Z of its era. |
Well we have gone in a complete circle on this topic...I don't think there is a right answer. It just seems like a re-used letter of the Infiniti division.
When you think about it the G-Coupe is a Bastard child all together. |
