Key doesn't work anymore
 

Short version of long story...
Wife took my key-chain including the ignition key I use daily (2004). Found the spare (the one attached to the door/trunk opener). Motor turns over but will not start. Spare key wasn't used for a few years.
When wife returned, grabbed the usual key & it started.
What happened to the spare & what do I do know? I tried a search but got a lot of non pertinent info.
Anyone know the answer before I call dealer & get ripped off?

have you ever used the key before? might not be programmed to the BCM

I'm guessing the battery is likely dead. Call the dealership and ask them for a new battery and see if that works. :)

Yes it has worked before. Haven't tried it for about 2 years.
In 2004 the key didn't have a battery. The button thingy (fob?) did.

I'm so sorry! I misunderstood. I'm thinking maybe it went the way of being erased somehow. :(

Samething happen to me, it lost the program and I tryed to get it re-prodrammed, and nothing, so i had to buy a new key. Aftermarket key, $25, Infiniti key, $80. I got the aftermarket key, and it works fine.
