How come Turbo G's aren't as fast as they should be?
I may be ignorant but from what I have been able to see, the fastest G is only in the 11's. IMO that's pretty sad for the amazing drivetrain these cars have ( at least that's how I see it ).
I come from a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix and the car ran 12.6@111mph with 357whp. This was full interior, everything nearly stock except for the fact that I removed the supercharger and turbocharged it ( what I mean is that the entire drivetrain was stock except for what is needed to turbocharge it and add the proper fueling. ). Heck, it was even on the stock exhaust. Now keep in mind that this car weighs 3400+lbs and is FWD with a 4 speed auto tranny and a 3.8L V6 with 2 valves per cylinder that produce 200hp when N/A and 240hp when supercharged ( yes, it makes less hp that a VQ even though it's got more displacement and a supercharger to boot ). In the GP forums you have mildly modded GP's doing 11's to heavily modded GP's doing 8's ( The quickest being 8.6@159mph ). So my question is...why are't their any G's in the 8's, or 9's, or even 10's for that matter? I see people with 600+whp so the power is there...but where are the times? |
coupes are hella heavy

Yeah, my guess is weight.

i dunno :dunno: LOL

How are they any heavier than a 3400+lb Grand Prix? I believe G35 coupes weigh just as much, if not lighter. |
they fatttt b1tches

I think the G35 coupe only weighs about a 100 more pounds so I don't think weight is the reason.
I think your 1/4 mile time for that car is impressive. Edmunds clocked the 2005 C6 Corvette at 12.8 with 400-hp. Your car was quicker than the C6 Corvette with more weight, less power, and front wheel drive. The brutal acceleration it showed at speed translated to similarly impressive results at the actual drag strip. Run under nearly ideal conditions, the Corvette ripped off a 4.8-second 0-to-60 time and a best quarter-mile of 12.8 seconds at 107 mph http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...ticleId=103666 |
Thought the 06 coupes were at least 3650+LBs.

1) we have alot of drivetrain loss specially since we use a multi piece driveshaft(18% drivetrain loss on a 6MT).
2)independent rear suspension known for wheel hopping 3) can't drop the clutch again cause of wheel hop 4)Weight 5)Axles have been know to break when using slicks |
Ya the whole deal is.....trade it in and see what ya get...lol

11's is a sad time.......? Anyways I believe most G owners build their cars to be fast but still be able to drive in the streets. Anytime faster than 10sec is not even drivable in the streets. In my opinion, if people want a REALLY fast car, they would not fix up G's in the first place, they would fix up something like a honda civic which is much cheaper and can get them under 11 second much quicker with less cost.
Also anything faster than 10 second I would consider funny cars, and G's are more of a sport/luxurious car hence their heavy weight like BMWs and Lexus.. |

Most of the 10 second GP's are daily drivers ( some even rack up over 20K miles a year ). Just put some slicks on and race gas and bam...you're in the 10's. I've seen a lot of STI's and EVO's that can do the same. Another funny thing is that there is a 350Z down here in Puerto Rico that ran a 9.7@144mph. While 350Z are lighter than G's...it's not by a huge amount ( about 300lbs ). I see no reason G's shouldnt be able to be in the high 9's or at least knocking on 9's door. |
