What part of "Do Not Wash" don't you understand?
 

What would you do?

Here's the situation: I went to my local and closest (90 miles away) Infiniti dealership today to have some warranty work performed. I needed some possible TSB issues to be examined (weatherstripping, brakes, tank not filling up). So I get there, and they are really nice and cooperative. The service person fills out the service order, blah, blah blah. But since I just spent two days buffing out the swirls on my black G, I tell the service guy to NOT wash my car. He makes a note of it and says he'll tell the service people to not wash it. They are nice about giving me a loaner vehicle, and I come back a couple hours later to pick up the car. All the warranty stuff was fixed. Perfect! Then they drive the car around for me to pick up, and guess what... Yes, they washed the car. It's a sunny day, so I look at the car in the sun and it is full of swirls from washing and drying it. I went back into the dealership and told them the situation. The service lady said, "Sorry 'bout that."

Furious, I asked to see the service manager. Conveniently he was gone to lunch. Since I had to rush to an appointment, I wasn't able to wait.

Should I be thankful they fixed the problems, chalk the washing up to "we all make mistakes," move on, and find another two days to rebuff the car myself? Or should I insist the dealership buff the car out themselves? Or is there an option three?

U are gonna do a better job then they will.. u should just do it yourself..

lol... well personal i would be mad as well.. but then again .. thankful its nothing that serious.. yea u busted you back buffing your G... to have it swirled up again .. i would just let it go ... they fixed all the "major" problems which is the main thing... are the swirls worst compared to you buffing the car.. if its not.. i wouldlet it be.. 90 miles back and forth .. it would be work it.. gas time.. nah ..

I had this happen with my last car. I just took some masking tape across the steering wheel and wrote 'do not wash car' on it in marker.

Worked everytime.

one time, a dealer tried sending my car through their automatic wash and it got stuck....

OP, I would be furious. Polishing is not an easy task it takes lots of time, I would call and make the dealer ship manager call you, or the Service Manager.

Most likely you will just need a light polish to get it all out with maybe 3-4 passes. And do not, I repeat do not let them detail your car unless you want more + Marring and buffer trails.

Coupon for a reputable pro detailer? Yeah, I know, never happen.

Thanks, everyone, for your helpful thoughts. Fortunately or unfortunately, my anger has diminished (slightly). I think I'm going to chalk this up as a learning experience and walk away somewhat smarter. What a great idea to write "Do not wash" on the steering wheel. That's the positive lesson I'll take from this.

I guess this gives me an excuse to call in sick for a day [or two :)]

I think my dealer put the note on the work order in big letters. In the window might work also.

I am bringing my car in this week for 60K maintenance. I specifically said do NOT run it through the auto wash b/c it would get stuck. Hand wash only.

I don't know what color car you have or how particular you are about it being washed, but my car wash "hand washed" by the dealership. The people who hand wash your car use towels that have fallen on the floor countless times, been used to wash 20 other cars that day, and probably used to clean the hands of the guy who changes the oil. Then they use a towel with the same grit and grime on it to dry the car. I would guess there's more damage done by hand washing than automatic washing. Bottom line: if you want the car cleaned right... clean it yourself!

The exact thing happened to me. I just let by gone be by gone. It'll buff right out.

I'm more pissed they ruined my headliner, ****ed up my rear seat (scratched the leather), and nicked a few interior trims.

Long story short. They did what was right. The exterior however, I was suppose to drive back to have them "Take a look at it".

Damn, I didn't check the back seat. They had to remove it to fix the gas tank issue.

They told me the rear seat "scratch" was just "normal leather" imperfections. I call BS on that. I detail interior all the time and never noticed the scratch there.

It looked more like a sharp edge was resting on the leather seat for the entire week my car was at the dealership. And it left an imprint.

That damage was obviously done by the dealership. Did they have to remove the seat to fix the issue with not being able to fully fill the gas tank?
