Project G37S Coupe
Just got back from a trip back home to Kentucky. While I was home, I did a bunch of work to my dad's G37S Coupe for him. He amassed quite a few parts in anticipation of me coming. Here's the list of changes:
*New black OEM grill to replace the chrome one *Painted headlight housings black and smoked the amber reflectors *Smoked the taillights *Added a sportier OEM spoiler to replace the chrome strip on the back (not pictured) *Stillen Gen 3 Long Tube intakes *Stillen Short Throw Shifter *Stillen headers, heatwrapped and sealed *Stillen high flow catalytic converters (not pictured) *Stillen catback exhaust *UpRev Osiris ROM reflash On to the pics: https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._4020741_n.jpg Shot of the coupe before the project began. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._2649594_n.jpg Other side of the front. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._6699180_n.jpg More of a head-on shot. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._2164306_n.jpg Interior. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._3698981_n.jpg Rear end prior to any work being done. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._7051582_n.jpg Stock exhaust. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._7043674_n.jpg Bumper off. New black grill installed. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._3803761_n.jpg Rear end disassembled. Tail lights sent out for smoking. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._3472940_n.jpg Front end apart, holes enlarged for the intake tubes to fit through, intakes mostly installed. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._6104797_n.jpg Another shot of the intakes. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._7119093_n.jpg New exhaust installed. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._8163587_n.jpg Another picture of the exhaust. Runs nicely up to the stock cats (new Stillens were installed later). https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._5214881_n.jpg New mufflers and tips. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._1408898_n.jpg Stillen headers after heat wrap and seal - before being installed. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._6467448_n.jpg Interior ripped apart to install the shifter. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._5965351_n.jpg Had to take the center console mostly all the way apart to get to the bolts holding the shifter assembly in. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._3533832_n.jpg Stillen shifter is the silver one. Moves the shift knob down a bit in the interior and also moves the fulcrum. Reduced the shift throw and cleaned up the shifts very nicely. Much more precise. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...3_240988_n.jpg Interior all back together. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._4319861_n.jpg Intakes fully installed, engine cover back on. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._7508455_n.jpg Another shot of the engine bay. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._5346337_n.jpg Headlights prior to being worked on. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._4989080_n.jpg Headlights ripped apart. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._2243851_n.jpg More parts. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._1128173_n.jpg Bezels after wet sanding. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._4298979_n.jpg After a few coats of self-etching primer. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._6635607_n.jpg Pic got messed up, but bezel after bumper black paint. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...2_580586_n.jpg Finished bezels. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...3_814516_n.jpg Amber reflectors after a coat of VHT Night Shades, wet sanding, and finally clear coat. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._1335349_n.jpg Finished reflectors. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._8296784_n.jpg Good shot of one of the bezels. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._2579850_n.jpg Finished headlight. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...7_235278_n.jpg Front of the car put back together. Newly finished headlights and new grill. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._6453947_n.jpg Good pic across the front of the car. Amber reflectors look darker in the pictures than they really are. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._3226773_n.jpg From up and over the front. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._5981457_n.jpg Smoked taillights reinstalled. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._5226206_n.jpg Finished rear of the car. Next up for it are a debadge of the rear leaving just the Mt Fuji emblem, a Motordyne intake plenum, 6000K headlight bulbs, adjusting the clutch a bit, and a retune. |

Your dad is the man!!! I bebadged the "G37" on my dads coupe and he almost killed me hahaha
|
Looks great and I really like the new grill. Also how difficult was the header install, I have always read/heard its a PIA!

That's the one thing I made my dad outsource, as I didn't even tackle it on my G35.
The Infiniti Stealership (Sam Swope in Louisville, KY) was supposed to do that install, and they originally quoted him I think 5-7 hours at $100 an hour for labor. Well he called a few days ahead to confirm and the service manager got on the phone. He told Dad that they had just finished an install on another G37 and it ran them 20 hours as they had to drop the motor (complete BS) so the actual cost was going to be $2000 plus or minus a few hundred. They also clipped one of Dad's coworkers (a female no less) 2 g's for a fresh set of tires on her G37. I guess they figure if people have the money to buy the cars, they won't question exorbitant costs for service. Needless to say we called BS and found a local performance shop that did the install for $380. I probably COULD have done it myself, but I would much rather outsource a project like that as it really is a PITA, especially without a lift. We took the G37 to the stealership to get a new sport spoiler installed, and they ended up botching the install. They installed it in the mechanic bay instead of sending it to their body shop, and it came back with the 3M tape all messed up. They ended up having to keep the car for the entire weekend because they had to source a complete new spoiler "as the tape was already installed." I told them their body shop would have rolls of 3M tape to fix it and we didn't mind another hour wait, but the service manager wouldn't even start to listen to me. Needless to say Dad won't be going back there. I told him I could've done the spoiler install, but he didn't listen to me and had them do it and ended up getting it screwed up. They also left a really nice little scratch under the spoiler (we saw it after they'd removed the first attempt) where the drill bit slipped. Just bare metal, didn't even try to put touch up on it to prevent rust later. Shoddy workmanship at the best. |
i ****in lover that color

Sick car, i wish my dad was into Gs. Mention to him lowering springs should be at the top of the "to do" list :)
|
Beautiful car!

Damn nice coupe, good job on your mods.... Your experience with the dealership is what most of us have had or see too much of. That's why we only go there for warranty work. If you haven't had your headers installed yet try a quality muffler shop, if you have one.

Wow the car looks great, get some sound clips of the headers and exhaust.

I don't love g37s for some reason but this one is definitely nice. I think I'll get a genesis or accord coupe next.
