hey guys,

i was backing out of my driveway earlier today at my new place and hit a sharp curb on the side and it chipped my front tire. is it something i should be worried about? does it need to get replaced? pic attached

thanks

It needs to be replaced. Now it has a much higher likelihood of blowing out and the integrity of the sidewall is hugely compromised.

I'd replace it if i were you because i wouldnt want to crash and die with highway speeds.

Yeah you should definitely get that replaced ASAP

I never would have thought a small chip in the sidewall could be so dangerous!

I have one about half the side of that on my rears and I've been driving on many rough roads without any problems....I wonder if the manufacturer's warranty covers this? (Hankooks)

It always better to be safe then sorry. Especially when your driving on the freeway.

Yep, that kind of damage goes from "no problem" to "catastrophic failure at speed" with no in-between. No, it's abuse, no matter how unintentional, and the warranty will not cover. Some road hazard policies will cover that kind of sidewall damage, a few won't.
