Windshield washer fluid light, seriously WTF?

My girlfriend is now the very proud owner of my beloved Amanda and I ran across an issue yesterday I haven't seen discussed here. She used all the fluid so I replaced it yesterday while I was changing the oil. The light came on in the dash to show low fluid level but after I filled it it didn't go away. Anyone have any ideas why? The reservoir has 2 wiring harnesses that plug into it and I took both off and reconnected them even though neither one was touched.

For background info I had removed the filler neck years ago to install my aluminum coolant overflow and PS fluid tanks and made a makeshift cover for the washer tank and have never had an issue until yesterday. Any and all feedback will be welcomed......

Any idea if these are optical or mechanical sensors? I'd guess running the level low possibly caused it to get gummed up/blocked/clogged/etc. Also I haven't heard of this being an issue on the G, and I've used multiple types of fluid in mine, but certain types of fluid (bug removing) don't play well with the sensors on some cars. Just throwing it out there in case you tried a different brand/type of fluid this time.

Yep, my guess is the float switch is stuck, definitely mechanical after looking up pics of the replacement. You might try tapping (or just straight hammering) on that location of the reservoir to free it up, might be able to drift punch it from the bottom with a wooden dowel or something. I've never seen a vehicle that had a delay for the low washer fluid indicator on the dash but it might be programmed to turn off after something like 5-10 starts like a Dodge and their stupid method.

Could also get a flashlight and a coat hanger and reach into the tank and fish around for the float.

Ttrank gives good advice here about removing the bumper cover to access the switch.

The light in my '04 goes off as soon as the reservoir is refilled. Hopefully it's just stuck and he can free it up with your suggestion.

a few miles down a bumpy road may loosen the float and get it working again

Rip through a parking lot with big speed bumps.

Update, the light is now off. I have no idea why, I'm guessing the float was stuck as suggested and it worked itself free.

Maybe your GF was following this thread and took the "bumpy roads and speed bump" advice.
