Replacement lug nuts
 

One of the lug nuts on my car seems to be swollen or damaged - my 21mm socket didn't fit nor did a 13/16. Not having a replacement and not really knowing how to fix it, I left it alone.... Then I went to McGard's website to see what they offer and they list two 'normal' style lug nuts, # 64003 and 64013 (M12 x 1.25). Both of them say

Not for use on OEM wheels.

Anyone know why ? The OEM lug nuts do have a 'flanged' end on the threaded size while the McGards do not. I suspect that is why but am not sure. Dorman also offers lug nuts and they look similar to the OEM ones.

Anyone replace theirs ? What did you use ?

I bought a bunch from a Nissan or Infiniti (can't remember which) dealer store on eBay for little money. They weren't sold as brand new, but as ones that were taken off new cars. They were essentially brand new though.

The only difference between those two McGards nuts is one will not let the socket go past the end of the nut. Purely cosmetic. They will be just the absolute TINIEST bit loose on your 19mm socket though since they are cut for 3/4" SAE, I've never seen this to ever be a problem though since the two are only 2/1000's of an inch difference (plus manufacturing tolerances).

Yeah, between many metric and imperial lug nuts, you can use either tool. Mine are 21mm hex and a 13/16" fits fine. If it were even a bit sloppy, I wouldn't use a different size.

Anyway, I contacted McGard and they wouldn't recommend any of their lug nuts because of the flange and the shank design of the OEM vs theirs.
