ABS only working on one side?
 

HI

Just bought my coupe from an Infiniti dealership and with the recent snowfall I tested the brakes.
I noticed a couple of things:
1. The ABS only sounds like it is working on the drivers side, not the passenger. The drivers side rotors are shiny metallica while the passenger is not.
2. When ABS is pulsating it makes a grinding noise as it applies on the drivers side only.

What do you think is happening?

I think you should immediately return to the Infiniti dealer and have them check it. i believe it is against the law to allow a vehicle to leave with defective brakes.

ABS isn't an all-or-nothing function. It's certainly possible that the system didn't detect (almost) lock-up on the passenger side so it only applied anti-lock to the driver's side.

You mention the rotor's finish on one side vs the other and if your passenger side brakes weren't working, you'd immediately have noticed this while driving and braking on dry pavement. Or as much as people want to ridicule dealerships, they would have found this during their test drive/inspection. When you brake, does the car turn left ?

The noise comes from the actuator/modulator, and there's only one of those in the car. So when the ABS system kicks on the modulator starts pumping and making those "grinding" noises. Those sounds are not coming from the rotors/pads. Depending on where the modulator is located(far left/driver's side right by the master on our Gs) that's where the noise is coming from. So, you're fine. Nothing to worry about :D

Silversleeper86 - that sounds like the best news a guy could ask for. So this would imply all late model G37xs and 2014/2015 Q60S have the same "grinding" noise only coming from the drivers side

Your car is probably fine. "Testing" the ABS in snow is fine to do once in a while, but do it in an empty parking lot or something, not on the street. ABS isn't perfect and your tires are a huge factor in how it works. In snow, your wheels will lock up if you hit the brakes hard enough. Then they'll release, then lock again, then release, and possibly repeat this until you're going slow enough that the tires have nearly 100% good traction. This lock, release, lock process is very fast too and doesn't feel completely reassuring, hence the "grinding" sound you heard.

The ABS modulator is located almost next to you too. Well, when you're sitting in the driver's seat, reach your left hand out the window and touch the corner. It's pretty much right there.

Yes all V35 and V36 have the modulator located right in front of the driver directly next to the master cylinder AFAIK
