Heating/cooling recirculation "inlet"
 

Does anyone know where the "inlet" is for the heating/cooling system's recirculation point ? I presume it's under the dash/floorboard area ?

I've done the "disinfection" by spraying Lysol into the windshield cowl area and it worked real well. Some owners mention that slight musty smell you can get when first turning the AC on. Mine had that and I was able to control it by turning the AC off for ~1 minute before shutting the car off but I still want to go a bit more thorough.

Check out Speedcar's video on how the air conditioner works, he chops the entire thing apart and it should give you an idea where to start looking. I don't know where exactly the air is drawn from.

FYI better than just turning AC off for a minute before arrival, crank the heat up to 90 to evaporate any condensed water that is in the system.

The blower and air filter are located behind the glovebox. The intake should be very close by to it somewhere.

No need! It's been Standard Operating Procedure. I have no vent stink in my car. And I'm in humid NC. If you stop the car with a 45 degree cold ventilation system, humid ambient air will condense inside and out. A blast of heat through the system will ameliorate the effect considerably.

He's not implying that it doesn't work, just that it's not a comfortable solution when it's already hot outside. :)

FWIW, I'm fairly confident that the inlet is under the passenger side dash, in towards the center 'console'. You can feel something that's no larger than one of the dashboard vent outlets that I think is the inlet.

I turned the fan on full speed and took a paper towel and kinda tossed around in that area and it seemed to be sucked to the inlet. I used a full piece and hoped the suction wasn't so strong it would suck the paper towel in and it didn't. A tissue paper would be better but it's more likely to get sucked in.

I also sprayed the disinfectant spray in that area horizontally and seemed like some of the mist was drawn into the inlet as well.

Heh. Fair enough. But for me, it's just a quick blast. I'm gonna be hot when I get out of the car in a minute anyway. 90 degree max is still cooler than the 95 I'll be stepping out into....:D
