Some interesting numbers...
 

OK just wanted to share this with you guys.

I just got my New Road and Track Mag and in it they have the test numbers vs. as tested prices for the new Hyundai Genesis coupe--being that I think we all were like -"Hmm it looks pretty cool" (the one we saw at HIN that was near us)

(which for clarity does not come in a V8 at all- only the Sedan Genesis does.)

But the Genesis Coupe comes with a 4cyl 2.0 Turbo engine and a 3.8 V6

now the numbers I found interesting

they tested both cars the 2.0T and the 3.8 V6 Track version
the 2.0 was $27,500 and the V6 was $30,345 so about a $2800 difference.

Specs -- 2.0T 210HP/223TQ and 3390lbs, V6 306HP/266TQ and 3470lbs


the test numbers were
0-60MPH
2.0T- 7.2sec
V6 - 5.7sec

0-100MPH
2.0T - 18.7sec
V6 - 14.7sec

1/4 mi.
2.0T - 15.4 @90.8MPH
V6 - 14.4 @99.1MPH

Electronically Limited top speed -2.0T 137mph , V6 149MPH

Slalom Speed- (driving back and forth -side to side thru cones)
2.0T- 67.6mph (really good)
V6 - 69.3mph (thats great!)

Skidpad (highest G forces measured going both directions in a 200ft circle)
2.0T - 0.85
V6 - 0.90

Now my thing is the V6 IS WAYYYYY more powerful than the 2.0T ...and the numbers are hugely different in speed and handling (even tho the 67.6 slalom is a great number-its what our G35 coupe tested at in 2004)
Still the speed and power difference for only $2800 more that you get makes me say--why the heck would anyone who doesnt have another sporty car to drive and this will be there sporty coupe NOT just buy the V6?

the fuel economy was 4 miles difference 2.0T@22MPG and V6@18MPG

I mean I undertand that with my car. how the IS250 vs the IS350 the difference is about $6000 and there is a HUGE performace difference also but hey 6 grand is 6 grand ...but with this is only like $2800 more
when you are already spending like 27.5K what is another $2800 bucks...for that kind of performance difference...I'd say just wait & save another 2 grand if you cant swing it that hard and get the V6!!!:JAMIN:

I agree with u to a certain xtent cause if ur into modding ur car engine wise i believe the turbo 4cyl is better way to go been that internals are already made to handle FI. U can take the 2800 that u save by not getting the v6 and do some engine upgrades and get better numbers then the v6.
Now if ur into jus flashy and no engine mods i would go for the v6.
either way its a really nice car and im sure we will b seen alot of them out on the road as well as alot of g35 vs genesis youtube vids.:driving:

U know thats a very good point Hector..I didnt even think of it like that...
the 4 is made for FI so that is true...and the V6 isnt, so it may do what a lotta G35's did when peeps went nut with FI on them (Kaboom!).

Just depends on how much FI it can handle before you gotta start doing some serious engine strengthening stuff to the 4 banger...and how much you can get out of it before you need to...so if ya gotta spend $5K to get a bigger boost and you end up with like 300HP anyways...its a crazy jip...but if it can take more to get 300RWHP then its a great buy...

with the 306HP and 266TQ I would have been much more impressed with better 0-60 and 0-100MPH run numbers.

G35's vs Genesis would be a nice site...the G35 would get off the line better tho --i know that...the TQ on the VQ is nice down low!- I remember loving that in my G.
and R&T mag said that the TQ on the Genesis lacks in the way they geared the tranny.
But man ...its the first run at it...would love to see if they join the bandwagon like Nissan does by giving it more HP every two years...
Hyundai has come a long way from the Excel...

like I said at hin they are already having problems with the tranny, if it cant handle 200hp, how would it hand 300 lol!

2.0T ... wow i was unaware Hyundais made turbo engines... I didnt know the Tiburon was either

Anyway, from my very limited experince with a stock turbo engine is that they are VERY easily upgradable (WINK)... Ive seen many Audi A4's chase down big competition with no problem, not to mention the 335 (cough cough) chase down bigger comp as well, with a moderate tune.

O and also... those HP numbers are said to be tested on regular fuel... With 93(premium) the 2.0T is 223 and the V6 310. Numbers arent bad at all for the price.

Plus the G37 is about 300lbs heavier so it doesnt look good.

Like others have said. All you need to do is a larger turbo, bigger intercooler, and tune. It will toast the V6 no problem.

True but its not that simple...as we've all seen with G's - that can lead to your engine going Boom!
and tuning ---good luck finding a good tuner that can make your engine run right after pumping up the FI.

Yes we all know a turbo will give you mad power, its the question of can it handle the power? and at what cost $$ wise?
the current 2.0T isnt saying much...so it would need at least another 100HP & 100lbs of TQ to break even with the V6....the questions are ...

Would you have to spend more than $2800 to do it?
and what would you have to spend to make it "toast" the V6...if you have to spend $3000 to break even with the V6...plus void your warranty all together wouldnt it just make sense to buy the V6 from the start?

Now by the time you get a bigger turbo, bigger intercooler, and a tune (and void your powertrain warranty) if you spend over $5000 (and you could easily do that, buying all that stuff and installing) with the V6 doing the 1/4 mile in like 14sec or so...you'd have to at least do it in a low low 13's.
or else ya coulda just got the V6, kept the warranty and had change.

not to mention could the 4banger handle this bigger turbo...just some things to ponder..

either way - I like the way the car looks (except for that rear window, but I'd deal with it, and the grill is ehh..)but it looks good.

and Josh---yeah if I ever see that Genesis hanging with me on that str8 run...I'm upgrading to the IS-F next day...LMAO, but I know for now I'm good-they cant catch me yet...lol
