a process like chroming but in black. I've had bike and car parts done in black chrome and the finish is amazing. Painting wheels isn't a good idea because it chips to easy. Either powder coat or have them chromed in black, neither process will crack or chip. In the 80's when I had a 280Z with American Mags I used to paint the centers. To maintain the finish I had to repaint every six months...sand...tape..paint gets old quickly! |
Hey, a couple of those pics were mine (DG coupe). =p Not sure about Florida, but I had mine done in CA from a place called F1Motorsports (in the Hollywood area). I must agree that black chrome looks awesome. When I first looked at the G35 coupe a year before I actually bought one, they had one on the dealer lot like that. However, I hear that black chrome tends to turn brown as they age. In addition, I would agree that people would think painted centers would chip easily. However, after about 20k miles on mine, I have yet to get any notable chips on my wheels. Also, I was advised AGAINST powdercoating because of the thin spoke design of our wheels. The high temp process tends to breakdown and weaken aluminum alloy wheels. At first, I was disappointed and kind of worried about going the paint method. However, after finding out that the original finish of the OEM 19"s are paint anyways... I really never put much thought into it again. All in all, I love the look and am happy with the job. It's also funny to see people staring at my wheels all the time. =p
