6MT or AT? Your 2 cents...

I've read about some of the problems Manual Transmissions were having... Still a good idea to get 6MT over AUTO? I've been debating Auto or Manual for the longest time... I am getting the car in a week and I need to make up my mind... your opinions will be greatly appreciated... Thanks.

My 04 6MT has a common issue with first-gear "rattle" - not a big deal, and subsided when I installed Redline Synthetic GL4 Gear Oil. Also occasionally "notchy" but I like it. All in all, I find the car a blast to drive with the 6MT, very responsive, and the gears match nicely with the posted speeds during city driving.

I wouldn't get an auto because you're concerned about problems on the MT. My '04 MT has been flawless so far.

For me, rowing gears makes the driving experience so much richer. To each his own though.. and you have to decide yourself.

dont get the AT just because of a 6mt problem. i have a AT and i love it. The AT is great when ur in traffic or if u are just cruzin around. The AT is the best of both worlds because u get the manual mode and the full auto mode. It really depends on what u perfer. Origenaly i wanted a 6mt but that would not work because my girl friend at the time could not drive stick. But i am glad i got an auto its great and a lotta fun. but its really up to what u want. like i said dont worry about the tranny problems cuz infiniti will replace it if it gets messed up

Drive both, go over your conditions, and possible scenarios. Then decide. I'm sure this and the color choices are hardest. Someone sed the best way was to visualize urself with the car.. Wht do you see? IMHO, gogo clutch pedal.

Never owned a manual. The G is my first manual. Wouldn't have it any other way. I love rowing through the gears. 18" rims look great! Bonus Brembos look even better!

Re: 6MT or AT? Your 2 cents...

i have owned both...

I think the 5AT feels more luxurious. For some reason my 5AT rode softer.. But when it comes to response...the 5AT blows, IMO. Especially that shiftronic Bull, when i slapped it over, and mashed on the throttle....the shift had a major lag...sending me in to redline...when i intended to shift like right at redline. But i still liked it. (No offense anyone, just IMO)

Now the 6MT was a lot more responsive, and lively feeling... has a lil more better feeling to it. Overall a more feeling of control over your car. Now the shifting is pretty damn notchy...i hate crunchy shifting. And it does make some clanky noises when you push the clutch down. And i can some times hear the clutch and fly wheel rattling during idle in neutral....and i also heard this in my friends G. And i do know how to drive stick very well..so i know i am not wearing out my clutch...so go figure...its all up to you! peace

I think you get a lot more control with the 6mt.

More control with the 6MT, yes.
Personally, I just like driving a stick more.
But what it really comes down to, IMHO is this: When you look into the window of a car that looks as hot as the G35 Coupe does, I think you deserve to see a stick-shift. Somehow, you see an automatic, it's not really a Sports Car. LOL

Re: 6MT or AT? Your 2 cents...

Like everyone else said, drive both and see for yourself.
I have the 5AT, I live In Los Angeles (nasty traffic jams, both freeway and streets) wanted 6MT w/ Brembos, but in my situation was: "do I want to suffer 95% of the time for 5% of bliss". So I went with the 5AT, and am not disappointed on bit, the "Auto manual" mode is kewl, not 100% control but keeps me happy. People complain about the lag: here's my 2 cents on this topic. In normal (slow) driving/ shifting the "Auto manual" takes some time to shift. But when in Wot/ hard accelorating, I swear its instant. just my thoughts.

Re: 6MT or AT? Your 2 cents...

just got back from an entire day w/ a 5AT sedan while my 6MT coupe was being serviced (grease streak and front passenger-side rattle)

Well, the 5AT is nice, its fast, its pretty decent response, but i still love my 6MT and i am SO glad i chose it instead of the 5AT. I felt that i had much more control with the manual transmission. Drive them both for yourself, experience the subtle differences.

Re: 6MT or AT? Your 2 cents...

I would have to go with AT because there is just too much traffic here, and the G35 is gonna be my daily driver / only car. I can drive MT, but I'd be too busy messing with the navi or changing CDs or something.
