My Ashtray won't close on my 2005 G coupe

Hey Guys,

I think I've got a coin that has wedged itself up under or behind my ashtray and when I try to close it it stops about 1/4" before the latch would come into play and close the tray. I've taken the little mini tray out and have run a business card around the edge to try to get the coin out of the way but I think I need to take the full tray out. Does anyone know an easy way of doing this? I don't want to have the dealer taking apart the chrome console to fix it. Can the big tray be removed easily?

Any advice would be appreciated.

happened to me too. Had to take it to the dealership...they had it fixed quickly. Sorry but i don't have a solution other then that since i ran into the problem myself and handled it this way. Just relating with ya...goodluck

if its a manual it will pop out easy...just undo the shift knob by twisting it counter clock wise, put it in 4th gear and pop up the shift cover, then take out the ashtray from the back by removing the screws

My G has an automatic tranny. Thanks for the advice. I'm sure I can get it fixed. My main concern is I don't want to create a squeak or a looseness in the console just to get the jammed coin out of there. Any other G owners with an auto tranny?

auto is the same except removing the cover
