DO IT yourself Brake Pad change
 

I can't believe how easy this is.. why do ppl pay $150 just in labor to have pads changed? this is for bambo. same goes to regular brakes I guess.

A brake pad change is utterly pointless if you do not change or turn the rotors. Without getting the rotors resurfaced the new pads mold to the same grooves the old pads made. DO NOT FORGET THIS STEP...it adds to the price of a pad change ( if you don't do it yourself). Your local pep boys or kragen offers this service for a minimal charge. However you can only turn rotors so many times, hence the need for new rotors (last about 3 pad changes). Refer to a manual for more references...I just had to post this because its no-no and your G will not stop as fast!

Take them to a shop w/ a lathe to turn them.

The how-to on this forum is better. The one mentioned above does not mention that the rods that secure the pads in the rear PULL OUT opposed to push out like the ones for the front do.

IMO, cutting the rotors is recommended, but in no way does it make changing pads "utterly pointless" if you don't. I usually cut the rotors if they are warped or vibrate, and if they feel and look smooth I just change the pads, and never had a problem.

Can you post that link, I can't find it and I need to change my rear Brembo pads soon. The one in DIY section only has the write-up on the front ones.

The pad change from front to rear is identical, except that the rods that hold the pads in place PULL out on the rear calipers opposed to having to push them in towards the wheel well to remove them. The pics show the fronts, but it briefly mentions what I am talking about for the rears.

turning the rotors is just a revenue generator
it costs $$ and reduces the life or the rotor.

i just rough up the rotor surface with some meduim paper to remove any glazing
this gives the new pads a suface that they can bed in with

only turn them if they are warped

if you resurface (rough up) with a power sander rather than by hand be carefull and do it very lightly so as not to create any thickness variation in the rotor
