quick sub question before i buy today
 

Ok so I just bought a 12w6v2 and i found this person selling there 10w6v2 in a ported box for 300 bucks. Now the reason i got the 12w6 is cuz i got it for like 240 bucks. I just wanna know whats the difference between them obviously size, but should i sacrifice more space for the bigger one or just keep the smaller one (10w6 with ported box). Does the 12" sound that much better that i would sacrifice that much more trunk space?

You'll sacrifice space and you won't notice that much of a difference. I have 2 twelves in my trunk from a previous install/car. I have no trunk. Well i have a little room for sneakers. Anyhow with that said i'd trade someone for a 10" and then get the 1080 box.

Since i don't know exactly everything you will run i can't make definitive speculations, but i feel positive 10 or 12 with similar amp will all feel sound the same.

Also you said a ported box. Are you sure the ported will be smaller than teh 12 box. If you seal the 12 you'll most likely have a smaller box. But if you port it then yes the 12 box will be proportionantly larger.

im just running a 12w6 to a 500/1 amp with stock bose upgrade on a 03

i might just buy it and take out the sub and put it in a 1080 box like i had planned originally, but when a $400+ sub comes along for $235 i cant say no. SO if like you said theres not much difference i rather downgrade and save myself some space

yea a 12 sealed will be smaller then a 10 ported. i think the 12 sealed will have a tighter bass then the 10 ported

so theres really not that much difference where i'm gonna be like "wow the 12 is waay better than the 10?

From my experience I found out that one 10" will not cut it for my taste. One 12" is just fine if it is a good quality sub with a good amplifier. I would stick to the 12" in a sealed box (3/4" MDF) for tight bass or if you want loud boomy bass go with a band pass enclosure.

What kind of amp will you be using anyway? There are a few that you can buy on ebay that used to retail for around 1k and you can buy them now for a couple of hundreds. They are very good and since they don't have any moving parts they are pretty reliable too. Let me know if you are interested and I tell you what to look for.

so i hear the 10 is cleaner than the 12 and that the 12 obviously hits louder. so i dunno this is tough

Well, there is a big difference. Bass is created by moving air. A 10" sub will give you an area of (pi)(5^2) = 78.5 and the 12" sub will give you (pi)(6^2)=113.04. So there is about a 30% difference in sub surface area to move air with. I think there is a big difference between a 10" sub and a 12" sub in terms of sound volume. You can go noticeable higher with the 12" everything else the same. Just my 2 cents.

Ok. I have decided im going to stick with the 12", i think i'll be pretty happy with it, i've never purchased a sub before so I dont really know what to look for but i know i'll be happy with my decision. I think im also just gonna stick with a sealed box that would be my safe bet i keep hearing from audio places I call. I listen to rap/hip-hop plus alternative rock and rock and all that good stuff. So hopefully it'll work out for that kind of music too and not just the hip hop. Plus if i buy this http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...Product_ID=255 can i just turn down the bass for like rock music or other kind that dont need as much bass?

I've had both 10's and 12's, and while I used to think I *had* to have 2 12's in every car I got, I finally realized that a sealed 10" is perfect for my tastes. Its nice and punchy which is great for both rock and techno/dance music. For hip hop, the bigger is probably better.

On my last car what I did was bought both, tried each out for a week,and then sold the one I liked the least. You're gonna be driving around with that sub for a long time, so you might as well make sure you like what you hear.

I think it would be better for you to talk in decibels and not just saying more air will move. What change in decibels can you notice?!?!
