California smog question

I need to smog my coupe and got a few questions maybe some of you guys have dealt with.
I currently have Injen CAI, UR crank pulley, megan test pipes, and Injen ses exhaust. I know i need to throw the stock cats back on to pass, but what about the visual, what do i need to change to pass. And do smog places actualy do a visual inspection, like do they care if you have an aftermarket exhaust, even if you pass?
I need to know ASAP so i can smog tomrrow, thanks guys

i would say put back the stock cats and you should be fine

Calvin 12-17-2006 01:30 AM

id do the intake just to be safe. some check, others dont. cats for sure. you should be fine with the exhaust though, in my experiences at least.

im just trying to be safe, i dont want to spend $80 and fail and be out the money of have to pay for a retest. Do the smog techs actualy know my Injen cai and exhaust didnt come with the car? Can i say both injen pieces were a factory option? i know it sounds lame, im just being lazy.

abcquackyxyz 12-17-2006 02:12 AM

well pretty much the exhaust and cai is an obvious aftermarket upgrade. these techs see this all the time..but i wouldnt really worry about the exhaust. my reasoning is did your exhaust come with an (off road use only)?

yes, a cai is obviously not oem. these guys have done this for quite some time. they know what theyre looking at...whether they care or will check or not is another issue

if the CAI has CARB Sticker you are ok with it.
Test pipes needs to come out.
how long have you driven with the test pipes?
u may consider putting the stock exhaust back, only because, without the cats, alot of HC and CO may be floating in your exhaust pipes. This will cause higher emission readings.
if you werent running test pipes, it would be ok to smog with it. exhaust doesnt matter for smog, just everything before the cat

no intake is not carb legal, im going to swap it out tonight along with the test pipes, ill just do a few WOT runs b4 i go smog to clear out the exhaust and try to get the A/F right. I have ben running catless for almost 2 years now.

Quick question for all you Turbo's and SC's guys out there: Since most of the TT and SC aren't CARB certified, how do you guys get your cars checked? For some of the cars I've seen, there are so many Aftermarket parts in there that I'm sure you can't just put the OEM parts back on:confused: .

This PDF should help http://www.smogcheck.ca.gov/ftp/pdff...smog_check.pdf

03+ shouldn't need a smog for the first 6 years, as well as the vehicle title transfers within the first 4 years are exempt as well.

Doesn't mean you can't be sent to the referee for inspection though.
