Windshield chipped - dealer won't change weatherstripping...

The weatherstripping on the windshield of my 04 is starting to peel off at the top. I brought it to the dealer and they said they have to remove the windshield first, but because I have a small stone chip, they can't change it (under warranty) unless I replace the entire windshield (at my expense). They said the windshield will break when they try to remove it. I had the chip professionally filled at an auto glass shop but the dealer still insists I pay for a new windshield. Do I have a case or are they telling the truth?

I don't know how, but fight for it. Hate dealers.

Any online references I can use to battle this? I can't really fight it unless I have something concrete...

Best things are read all the warranty books about our cars and ask someone really good in talking or going to school for criminal justice or so talk for you.

It's up to the dealer. Really. If they don't want to assume the risk, you can't force them.

I'd do one of two things:

1 - Release the dealer from all liability. Sign a document telling stating that if the windshield breaks during the maintenance, you'll replace it.

2 - Go to another dealer. This is what I would do.

Honestly - would you want to FORCE a dealer to work on your car against their desire? I wouldn't. Their heart definitely wouldn't be in it, and the likelihood that I wouldn't be pleased would increase 100X.

+100000 on another dealer. Find a good one, build a strong relationship with the service manager, and don't go back to the crappy dealership.
