what's the purpose of the clearance strips
 

What's the original purpose of the clearance strips on the headlights of the 03-05 coupes?

Are they so that you can actually clear through a tight spot?!? :PPP We do have some fatty side mirrors...

You are suppose to leave it on when you park in a dark ally, so people don't crash into it. It's for them to clear your car not the other way around. But the light is so dim, I doubt anyone would see it before hitting it.
