Cruising?

Hey...so ive been driving my 6mt G35 for about ..2-3 weeks. I think ive got the shifting down, but i could always get better :) anyways, my question is...when i want to just cruise, and roll down a hill...how do i get the car to roll faster without stepping on the gas or putting it on neutral? usually on my way home...there is a slight decline for about a mile, when i use to drive my auto i would just let the car roll down and it would get faster and faster(over 40)...now when i drive the G, it stays around 30-35 mph and it even slows down lol, im usually in 4th when im comin down this hill, and if i shift to 5th, it doesnt really make a difference. Thanks in advance

If you want to just roll down the hill and cruise just put on neutral. Otherwise you can put on 6th gear. But your RPM might go up alittle even without the gas. IMO I normally put on "N" and let it roll, save more gas that way

If you have cruise control on, it usually slows the car down for you if you're going down a hill... So, turn that off if it's on... If it's NOT on, then, that is weird that it slows down and you should check your brakes, heh.

ideally you want to stay in a lower gear - say 3rd or 4th depending on how steep the incline is so it slows you down. cruising in neutral is not a good idea.

just put it in neutral

i heard you shouldnt put it in N cuz youd be usin all your breaks and to always stay in gear. i might have heard it on this forum too. but... i might be wrong

^^ yea...thast what i heard too, thats why i dont want to put it in neutral lol.

I agreed neutral is not a good idea when crusing down hill because it goes very fast and dangerous.

in an automatic car, the gearbox will shift to the highest gear in this situation so if you want to emulate it with a manual gearbox, just shift to 6th

alternatively, as everyone has said, its probably easier to just drop it into neutral..

Well, I was always told never to put it in neutral b/c its dangerous in case something happens you can't give it any power....at least thats what I was told on my bike, i would assume the same holds true in a car.

aight..thanks for all the responses guys...what if i put it in neutral and lets just say i wanna put it back in gear to slow it down or whatever..will that hurt the engine if i put it from neutral to like...4th? instead of goin 1-2-3-4..thanks

i wouldn't keep it in neutral like others say if you need to avoid something or need power neutral will get you no where. also is some place cruising in neutral is illegal

Neutral is about the only way, unless you keep in gear and push clutch pedal down and keep it there for the mile...haha.
There is no slippage (aka torque converter) in the manual like there is in an auto going down a hill.
Foot off gas in a manual will start to give you engine braking down a hill.
Try 6th gear, though you'll still slow down but less and would depend on how steep hill is.

it will be fine the only thing if you go down in N then you use your brakes more if you are in gears that slows the car down with out the brakes so they will last longer
