Painting my grill black due to Ducatiguy's absence

Hey guys, I really wanted Ducatiguy to make me a custom grill but since he is MIA, that does not seem to be an option at the moment. Actually, at one point in time, i was a day away from sending Ducatiguy my grill, good thing i didnt. My heart goes out to Maverok though, poor guy, cant even imagine not having a grill for over a month. Anyways, i was wondering if it would be possible to remove the grill and just paint it black. Obviously one would have to use a very specific type of paint, but do you guys think this idea is feasible? I know that Ducatiguy removes the Infiniti emblem and the grill's black chrome finish before he paints it, but how do you guys think it would turn out if i skipped those steps? And my most important question of all, what color/type of paint application would be the correct one to use? All idea's and feedback are welcome!

I think you can do it and I think it will be cool!! Just spray some primer first, then apply several coats of Black Gloss type paint and you're set!! It'll look like [censored], but you're set !!!

I went to several body shops just the other day about this and was told not to paint it because it wont hold. Several shops told me that the paint would look like crap in no time because it would not properly bond to the grill. Anyone know anything about the durability of painting chromed plastic?

I'd imagine the standard routine would work:

Sand all the surfaces (most likely removing all the chrome), and apply the kind of primer and paint that's formulated for plastic bumpers since the grill is flexible. Use several color coats, sanding lightly inbetween, followed by clear coat and polishing compound, then wax.

The hard part will be the sanding/polishing since the grill has so many irregular surfaces.

Do you guys think it would better if i painted the infiniti emblem black also or if i left it the chrome color it is now?

Im going to paint the grille black and leave the logo chrome. A little contrast will look good, I think.

I vote for leaving it chrome for now, that way you can see how it looks. Then if you still want to go super stelthy all black later you can. What color are your emblems on the back? Would you paint those black too?
