Touchup Paint for OEM 19's
I just got minor curb rash on one of my rims (2005 Coupe). There's some black undercoating exposed now. What Model/brand of touch up paint best matches the stock finish?
|
Closest I've been able to locate: Plasti-kote at Walmart, VTU-80 Fine Silver Metalic (Note: it's been several years since I purchased my bottle). It's a spot on match for common aluminum alloy's (GM, Nissan, others), but only about an 90% match on our rays 19's. I've only had to do one small area (can't speak for large areas) - looked much better than not touching it up.

Any ideas for touchup paint for the stock OEM 18s?

Hi SiouxFallsg35, I just went to Walmart and was unable to find the paint. The automotive paints were a different manufacturer and they no longer carry hobby paint.
I'm going to have to search other retailers. Was the paint in the automotive or toy section? how large was the bottle? |
Plast-kote's website does have a store locator (http://www.plastikote.com/). It's a java based site so I can't hotlink directly to the locater. You'll have to drill into the vehicle paint section, select "vehicle touch up paint -> Scratch color" then click the "where to purchase" java link from that page.
They may have changed color codes since I last purchased. What I did at that time was buy about 6 different silver bottles at Walmart, take it out to the car to find the best match, and then bring the other 5 back in to return. This works great as long as they're still making the bottles with color coded caps. |
