Are you sure you are out of warranty already? It goes under the powertrain warranty, 6 years 60,000 miles. I called my dealership and they told me to put my car back together and bring it in. So I did and they took care of me.

Isn't there a cheaper place to get the valve covers online rather than going to a dealer?

6 years 70,000 miles.

bythabay: Checked mine this weekend. Cylinder 6 had oil in it. I'll call the dealership tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up.

Pulled my plugs with 70 k and had no leaks and every plug still had perfect gap....fingers crossed it will stay that way.

Oil in the Hole!

Nothing new for a Nissan motor, I have a '95 KA24DE that loses the spark plug hole seal every several years, oil pools in the spark plug hole(s), usually closest to the timing chain end of the motor. I then have to pull the VC, replace the spark plug seal, and gasket, and it's good for another several years. I think I've done it three times in 130k miles.

If I don't notice it soon enough however, it soaks the spark plug boot and ruins it

Thanks for the head's up, really a pita if it doesn't lose enough oil that you'd notice it on the stick during an change interval.

Look for flats on the top/bottom of the O-ring, that's what the older I-4 motors like my KA did - for some reason over time the O-ring on that end of the VC (timing chain end) flattens out and doesn't retain its shape. No idea why, but I do know it leaks ;)

guys i bought an 03 g35c 5at like 3 months ago and i brought the car for a mechanic inspection and they didn't mention anything about this, so does it mean that they're dry?

Most mechanical inspections don't pull plugs unless it was an extremely thorough one. Good luck.

If you are not comfortable at all with doing it yourself then don't do it. This isn't like putting an intake on the car. If you don't tighten the plenum bolts to spec then after a while it will start leaking through there. If you overtighten them you might strip the threads so you have to have the right tools for the job.
I will be changing my valve covers this weekend or next weekend. Hopefully I will be able to take some pictures.

How are those photos coming along?

Has anyone had any issues with the dealer not wanting to cover repairs because of a plenum spacer? Just wondering, I need to find a weekend where I'm free and check for pooling oil. Perhaps I'll take pictures as well if I can manage to find where I left my camera.

I took my 2003 in for sparkplug change at around 85,000 miles (out of warranty) and discovered all my spark plugs were sitting in oil. I had to pay Infiniti for new valve covers and for labor to replace them. Cost me close to $1000! Get this checked before your warranty is up.

Careful, it's 70k but only 6 years. For me that's November of this year, even though mine is a 2004. So for the earlier buyers like me the warranty ends this year.

I wonder if the 350Z has this issue. I'd expect at least a TSB if it did, the numbers sold are a lot higher (36,000 2003 NNA vs. about 10,000 2003 G's).

Lol, I love how they classified it as "compact" for EPA mpg comparison purposes...even that 20 mpg city is a little optimistic, Winter with snows I see 17-18. The hwy has been about right tho'

I changed the plugs in my 05 Sedan at 50K miles and noticed the oil in the number 6 cyl.
Decided to take a few pics to show Infiniti. I traded it in on my 04 Coupe, so never got it up to the dealership. If you are going to check, I would take pics.
Now, I need to check my wife's 05 Sedan w/30K and my 04 Coupe w/50K.
I'll be taking pics again if there is any oil
Here's the pics I took

Great Pictures! Is there a line somewhere on the powertrain warranty that says this leak is covered? Or do I need to call infinite services for a list?
