my trunk won't open!
No it's not the keyfob battery or the trunk release switch in the glovebox. I have an 03 coupe. Any ideas? Fuse? Is there some kind of actuator?

you try pulling it open while pressing the trunk release button? maybe you have something in your trunk preventing it from opening?

Probably one or more broken wires in the wiring harness. Open the trunk lid by using the "emergency manual release pull" accessed through the back seat.
The wiring harness is on the right side near the trunk hinge (enclosed in a black rubber sheathing). The hinge can pinch the harness and break the wires. I had a couple of wires broken, including the trunk release and trunk light... Good luck Larry |
Sounds like the solenoid actuator switch has gone bad. Its on the trunk lid.

Sound like the solenoid actuator.. but check the ON/OFF button on the glove box compartment.. check if its ON accidentally.. read the manual how its works...

It's most likely the trunk wiring loom.
Had two issues: 1st: Trunk courtesy lamp would not light. Trunk wiring loom opened and broken wire soldered at dealer. 2nd: Trunk would not open. This happened twice. First time re-solder as above at dealer. 6 months later, the trunk couldn't be opened again. Obviously the first fix didn't work. I insisted on entire wiring loom being replaced. Infiniti Division in Tennessee advised dealer to lengthen all the wires in the existing wiring loom rather than install an entirely new loom. Infiniti claims that the subcontractor which manufactures the wiring loom for the trunk made it too short. That causes the wires inside to stretch to the point of breaking from opening and closing the trunk. 5 months later and all seems OK. Infiniti stated that they would remain responsible if the issue ever re-occurred. It would be nice if Infiniti included a key operated trunk release. BMW does. |
Thanks for the suggestions. Sounds like something I'm not gonna be able to fix on my own.
It's been a long time since I've had to bring my car to the dealership. Hopefully they won't rob me too much. |
