Window motors burning up!

Well, I have had two window motors burn up this week! Yea.. First went the driver side. (I got pretty good and closing the door and hitting the window switch to get it to go up, then I tried to trick it by jamming it from the top with the door open, then all of a sudden, no more). Just clicking noises.

Then 4 days later the passenger side went out. This one "thankfully" went out with the window up. This time there was no tricking the window. Just a click of the solenoid. (Totally burnt out). Talked to my dealership and they had about 15 or 20 motors that had went out in the past couple of months! Doh!

Anyone else burning up windows in the coupe? I have 03 with 15k on it.

Re: Window motors burning up!

Mine didn't "burn out" but my driver side did stop going down when I opened up the door. They said it was a "timing" issue and they corrected that and its been fine since. Mine only had around 1600 miles on it. Honestly I think their motors/whole system uses a faulty design. I've seen far to many issues to believe the system is solid enough for the application to be reliable. It goes down and you are scraping paint on the sill...not good...and I bet they would deny coverage to fix the paint for an issue like that.

Hopefully you will get an updated motor.

Just curious....has the weather been very hot where you are to have possibly caused this? Or high humidity/rain? Its strange that both went out at nearly the same time.

Weather varies drastically. Currently it has been in the upper 80's & low 90's. Humidity 40-55%, generally. Infiniti did advise that they were not designed well. What is odd is that all of the one's that they had were from Coupe's. Maybe it is possible that the window is larger/heavier and the motors can not take it? I have not idea, but was kinda frustrating to have both go out around the same time period.

Welcome to the club.

I was told that Infiniti is replacing the window motors with a different brand than what comes installed. So hopefully it won't happen again.

Diddo (14k miles)...my passenger side window went out about a week ago but at the same time i also took her in for the faulty fuel gage issue that im sure you guys are aware of at the least, if not actually experiencing. My window is working fine now and the sending unit for the fuel gage is on order.

Re: Window motors burning up!

Cloudkid,

Please see my other posts...especially my one titled "Absolutely Ridiculous: More Window Woes" I had and still have all kinds of issues with these windows. I have everything working "properly" so far presently, but it has been a hard and difficult road to get here (still some quirky-ness though). I still think my problems will return again eventually.....

As a result I have been urging people to please report this to Infiniti Conumer Affairs as that is the only "official" way to get them to do something about this properly. One fellow board member stated that the current design has been flawed from the beginning. He mentioned that more reliable systems use gears instead of how our's is made. Regardless of that fact, Infiniti engineers need to go back and do their homework on making them more dependable if they continue to keep the windows separate from the frame of the vehicle. Just my $.02. Thanks for your time!

my driver side window, when the door is open with the windows all the way up, didn't go as low as the passenger side, so i took it to the dealership.
they fixed it, but it only went down half as much as the passenger side.
i told them to fix it again today when i went for my 2nd maintenance, and they gave me a new motor.
