Got busted doing 114mph
 

This weekend on my way back from LA, I decided to go a little faster than I usually do. What a mistake. My speedo showwed a steady 110mph and then I see in my rearview mirror a CHP car flip a bitch over the dirt median on highway 5 and come after me. He gives me a ticket and says I was exceeding 114mph and that I would have to drive down to go to court.

Now im pissed for getting caught and doing something I knew I shouldnt have (at least until I get my radar detector) and that I have to drive back down to the middle of nowhere to show up to court (Im from san francisco, and the drive to where the court house is like 5 hours away.) So my question is, do any of you guys have any previous experience with a ticket for such an excessive speed? Any advice is appreciated. I really cant afford to have reckless driving on my record with the added insurance costs and all.

Wow man you are lucky. Don't cops arrest you for exceeding 100 mph???

Do not think twice if you know what is good for you. Hire yourself the best traffic attorney you can afford. You are about to learn a very expensive lesson unfortunately.

Your two choices are:

Pay a lot now
Pay a lot now and a lot more for the next 5-7 years...can't remember how long wreckless driving stays on your record.

Again, get yourself a lawyer.

Yea, you are very lucky. The cop could have taken you to jail and impounded your G35...consider yourself a very lucky man!

I don't know the cost but you lucky he didn't put you in jail. You looking maybe at least 200 bucks and up. I think you also get 2 points on your record for reckless driving.

I went up to san jose during july 4th weekend. I was using Valentine1 radar dectector. Every single time i pass by CHP (either pull over somebody or travelling the opposite direction, i get Ka band alert. Never failed.

Will they let you even goto traffic school when you are looking at an offense of 114mph?

Hire a traffic lawyer that is a local of the area. He can represent you in court and you don't have to show up (so you can skip the 5 hour drive), and he will hopefully at least get rid of the points for you. Good luck.

A guy here at work got popped on the 15 goign to vegas by CHP for 118 in a 70....

It was 1400 for the ticket and suspended license for a year.

He got a lawyer, fought it and got it reduced to $450 for the ticket, and 30 hours community service, but got to keep his license, but its still on his record as a 95 in a 70. So basically just a speeding ticket.


Good luck man.. Like everyone else said, just get a lawyer.

Well traffic school is out of the question and a ticket is going to be a lot more than 200 bucks, it seems a simple 15mph over is like 200 bucks now so expect a hefty fine.
Go to court and explain that you need a vehicle to get to work everyday and plead hardship so that you do not lose your license.
Your very lucky you got to drive home.

well 83 in a 65 is $181 in Los Angeles/San Fernando Valley. $181 was the bail amount ...basically $10 for every mile over the posted speed limit. Don't ask me how I know.... :(

I got a $260 tix going 90 in a 65 with a V1. (It went off about 3 seconds before I intercepted the cop) Guess she saw me coming and turned on the radar at the last moment. Come on now, 90 isn't all that fast on an empty highway.

Yeah, i think the best bet is for me to get a traffic lawyer. I was feeling very lucky that the cop did not impound my car. Damn!! The one time I decide to speed a little I get busted....hows that for luck? Does anyone know how much I should expect to pay for the lawyer?
