removing cats from a stock exhaust
Hey everyone,
I definitely dont have the money right now to get a complete exhaust system, and I like the sound of the stock exhaust, But I was thinking of getting the catalytic converts removed from my stock exhaust (07 g35 coupe).... I know it's illegal, but I'm wondering if anyone else has done this, how it sounds and any recommendations.. lemme know, thanks. |
...pretty much everyone does it. We just replace them with either high flow cats (catalytic converters designed to maximize air flow) or test pipes (straight pipes).
You can't just "take them out"... there would be a huge hole in your exhaust and it would be undrivably loud. |
would they really be undrivably loud?
and what are recommendations/prices on high flow cats or test pipes? |

Yes, Undrivably loud, unless you are wanting to drive you luxary looking race car to work, all the while blowing flaming hot exhaust under you feet. Your choice between HFC or test pipes.

I would recommend high flow cats over test pipes unless you're looking for all-out loud as you can be absolute maximum hp. I ran Fast Intentions HFC's with my stock exhaust for about a month and they gave it a nice growl. Little deeper, little meaner sound. I personally like Fast Intentions, but Berks and Crawfords are good too (I've heard) |
And you're looking at around $300-600, unless you can get em used.

+1 on searching, there are 100+ threads on here about high-flow cats and test pipes. Most of these guys are right in what there saying but you will allso get your answers faster by posting this in the right section "Tech" then "Exhaust" there is a place just to talk about this.
Not trying to sound like a jerk, just trying to point you in the right direction:) |
I thought that too, but... I was bored :icon17:
