Fuel gauge never shows full

The last several times I have filled up with gas my gauge never goes all the way to the topp and I can only fit between 15 & 16 gallons in. I usually fill up with in a bout 20 mile sof the light coming on.

My question is, do I still have 4-5 gallons left in my tank when the light comes on?

Also, I have tried filling up the last protion of the tank very slowly til it spurts out the top but still can't get the gauge to go all the way to the top.

Anyone else have the same problem?

The last 2 times I have filled up, the lock would stop like usual so as always I squeeze it for a few more till I hear it pretty close to the top. Then like you I get in and my gauge does not go all the way past F I'm waiting to see what happens this next time then I'll have it checked out.

Your fuel sending units are bad. Time to replace them

Princess_Jen 10-20-2009 12:19 PM

I had this issue. Theres no where to tell how much you do now. The fuel unit is shot. Do you really want to break down in middle of the street so you can hold off on getting gas for one more day? If you have warranty, take it to the dealer. Its a common issue with G35's.

or you can just watch your miles. ive been doing that for awhile now.. its not even a problem. If you run out of gas your a dumbass.

I've had this same problem since I got my car back in May. I will fill it up (I don't add any fuel after the initial stop though) and then when I start my car it will show anywhere between 3/4 and 7/8 full. Then, after an extended period of time (4-5 hours after the fill up) it will get close to the F. I have had it checked by two different dealers and both say they can't find anything wrong with it. It's not really that big of an issue for me because I normally don't like to get too low on gas (usually fill up around 1/4 tank), but it does get sort of annoying.

There is TSB for this, and the dealer should know about it. The fuel tank sending unit is broken and needs to be replaced. If it's under warranty, it should be covered.

If the dealer doesn't know about the TSB, you can find it on www.infinitihelp.com.

EDIT: I attached the TSB for your reference.

wait wait... so if you run out of gas when your ****en gauge is broken, your a dumbass?

So you've been watching your miles for a while now huh... is it because 1. your gauge is broken? or b. you drive like a mindless robot that you are?

dude.. watch your comments. The person started the thread to get some help, i don't think anyone on this forum will appreciate bs replies like the one you have posted.

The miles varies depending on city/highway driving as well as the temperature, cold starts etc.

Op, check out something like this:

http://autocustoms.com/i-132248-auto...vel-gauge.html

It might not be for the G35 but a similar product MIGHT help.. maybe you might need to wire up your own aftermarket sensor if you don't want to spend too much on factory parts.

p.s: when i had my custom gauges done, i had to recalibrate my needle. I basically pumped a full tank and some more and then put the needle back according to where it should be (just above the F). maybe its the needle/gauge you have? :S\

EDIT: G35fromPA might have the proper solution :)

Its good to know that I am not the only one who is seeing this on my G. It's not much of a problem because I do watch my miles & keep track of mielage, but it is pretty annoying.

Pry won't spend the money to get it fixed being that my G is an 04 and out of warranty. But, thanks a lot for the help guys.

Oh yeah, & BloodlineG, your the dumbass for posting such a worthless comment like that. Thanks for being such a D-bag!

There is a TSB for this but the stealerships like to claim it only is valid with a select group of VIN numbers. What a crock. I love my G but I hate Infinity. These guys wiggle their way out of doing anything.

Like I said I LOVE MY G. I don't hate infinitI cars just the company itself. Its run by a bunch of retards. They don't deserve to have their name spelt correctly until the learn what customer service is.

But you know what good customer service is and you still can't spell?? :bowrofl::icon30::icon30::thewave:

scottfedm 10-27-2009 06:19 PM

You may be on to something here. My spelling does suck. But I do know good client services and infinitI lacks. Maybe things are different in TX but here in PA....forget it.
