When you say "inside of the rim", are you talking about the back of the rim where no one can see it? LOL why bother with that?

^ i know right? no1 cleans that

danielj 01-09-2010 08:26 PM

just curious, how much would it cost to powdercoat my rims gunmetal? i might be gettin a decent tax return this year, so i wonder if its worth it?

NjMatteSedan 01-09-2010 08:47 PM

about 75 or 100 per wheel, is def worth it

+1 for simple green...it's a degreaser that can be sprayed on, let it sit for a minute then give it a good scrub and hose it off....you can usually find it pretty cheap especially if you buy by the gallon like i do, i usually even dilute it with a bit of water when i fill up my spray bottle, but it isn't necessary

Nice tip, I'll try that before I put them back on in the spring. Outsides look niiiiice, insides...not so much. :icon43:

Wayne, make sure you use just plain simple green. The simple green wheel cleaner is pretty acidic. You can even dilute the original simple green if you're worried.

Thx, Blain, I'll probably only use it on the inside -- so far soap and water plus Wheel Wax on the outside is workin' for me.

As long as you keep on em, they stay clean :D

Swivel 01-09-2010 09:19 PM

They have a hard time getting dirty in storage. The rest of my car, OTOH :icon09: :icon43:

That's all you need. Mine are dirty also but, don't think I'll clean them any time soon.

Sounds like the typical BMW, Mercedes, or Lexus owners who have black front wheels cuz their too lazy to wash their $50k+ cars once a year

Magic Eraser works for me. I usually pull my wheels off the car 2wice a year and really give them a good inside cleaning. Although I have OCD when it comes to my car so the inside of my wheels are as spotless as the front side at all times.

The old guy that owned my G first must have had someone clean it. When I bought it all 4 rims were effed up. Thats one of the reasons I had mine PC'ed. That and the fact I can't afford the GT-S Phantoms....LOL

Common sense isn't taught in any school I ever went to, it's part of our learning process and involves logical! It's not common sense to let anyone destroy your tires/rims when you have control of the situation. Example: our wheels should never be installed with anything but a torq wrench set a 85 LBS. Any time I go to my tire shop I mention using a troq wrench and it's taken car of. This also saves your calipers since each lug will be tightened using the same pressure....

OMG....there's two of us in the world with the same affliction, I clean mine every time I have my coupe on the rack doing my oil changes....that's every 90 days or so. I thought I was just a clean freak, now I know there's a name for it....:LMAO2:
