Newbie looking for help (G35 coupe)

Hi everyone!

I've just found out about the forum and it's amazing!

Well, I'm very interested on buying a G35 coupe, I was checking the prices and I can afford to a 2004 model (12/13k). I've done some researches on the internet about the car, but is always good to talk with owners.

So let me make same questions:

1- What I have to pay attention before buying the car?

2- How is the Bose audio system?

3- All coupes come with 280hp engine (manual or auto)?

4- How expensive is to maintain the car? Any common problem?

5- Any advices that I should Know before buying?

Thanks folks!

1 - If you're buying manual, watch for oil consumption problems
2 - Depends on your standards. I think it's pretty good
3 - Manual 05+ are 298HP
4 - No big problems. Some have had minor things like window motors and door lock actuators that go out; If you go to a private mechanic, the maintenance isn't too expensive
5 - Overall a great car, the ride may be a little rough, and it has a bit of road noise

Cool, thanks for helping...

Now is hard to choose between auto and manual, I live in Brazil I've been driving manual cars my whole life. I love it specially because I like feeling the torque and also to be able to control the car.

But the auto version has tiptronic, which for me is a new thing and besides I've never driving a semi auto car, it's seems to be pretty interesting.

You guys who have G35 auto, can you push it to the limits?

Last but not least, does anyone from Orlando Fl here? I'm moving to there, and it'll be nice meeting owners.

Thanks again.

I have the auto. Yes, you could beat the hell out of the transmissions. I use the tiptronic most of the time. Got 50K miles on mine and have had no problems. If you drive around 80mph all the time than you'll probably want that sixth gear. If you plan on doing a lot of performance mods than get the manual because the rev-up engine responds to them better.

The auto is still fairly sporty but obviously the manual is sportier.

So let me make same questions:

1- What I have to pay attention before buying the car?Depending on the mileage and condition from $14 to $20K,

2- How is the Bose audio system? I like my Bose system, never any issues.

3- All coupes come with 280hp engine (manual or auto)? I believe that's the advertised HP.

4- How expensive is to maintain the car? Any common problem? No issues with the '04 with the exception of brake pad wear which can be solved by installing aftermarket pads like Hawk HPs.

5- Any advices that I should Know before buying? Search for an '04 with low mileage that's been garage kept and has all their maintance records....wishfull thinking but keep looking. Mileage s/b between 40/60K miles.

Thanks folks!
No problem, Gary

Prove it.
Dyno numbers. From what I've researched on this site so far is that the manuals with similar mods that I've got have higher gains compared the stock output of both engines.

If you can prove me wrong then I'm all ears.

uh oh here we go
Yep, but luckily I don't like arguing over the internet.

Hard to find a 2004 with 40/60k miles, so hard as find a MT6.

You simply telling me the gains are more doesn't convince me. Show me a dyno sheet with a side by side comparison of a MT vs. AT using the same or similar mods. If the MT shows any significant gain (sans the 18 hp stock benefit) over the AT I'll believe it.

I don't have a dyno, two cars with the same mileage, etc... for a controlled experiment. I formed a hypothesis from the information I've read from other members. There's no simpler way I can put this. I'll believe what I've researched. And I'm definitely not referencing every post I've looked at on this site.

I'm not closed minded, if you or any other members have evidence that prove that both engines respond identically with modifications, then I'll change my mind.
