2003 G35 Coupe weird door lock issue

This might belong in the tech area and if so please pardon my ignorance. I am going crazy over the problem my G35 is having with not locking on unlocking the doors with either the key fob or the lock/unlock buttons. There is a standard whirring gear sound coming from inside the doors, the horn fires off upon locking and the lights flash. Same thing minus the flash and horn upon unlock however the lock latches barely twitch but do not move.

I am able to roll the windows down when holding the unlock and I am able to roll them up with the key in driver side lock position for 3 secs. I am able to go through the key fob programming ( 6inserts in 10 secs, on, press key, etc.) and it appears to react just fine except for the actual locking/unlocking the doors.

The doors can be locked manually by hand from inside or with a key from the outside.

I am being told by the stealerships that the BCM is fried but I fail to see how that's possible when the there is still some sort of response from the doors internally.

Anyone encounter this before or can recommend what to do ? :confused2:

I'm going to piggy back on the 5month old thread... I own a 2003 G35, and when I press the unlock button on my key fob it only unlocks the drivers side door once in a blue moon, but unlocks the passenger door everytime and I can roll down the windows everytime I try to. When I unlock or lock the locks with the switch in the car it works just fine so I don't think its the actuator.

Is there something I am doing wrong?

With mine it stopped working from the keyfob, but still worked from the electronic switch inside for a while. After a while, that stopped working and I could only lock/unlock with the manual switch or the key.

Once I replace the actuator, it all works fine now.

Very common issue. I have an 04...I ordered my driver side door lock actuator from Tony @ Riverside. I'll get it in a couple days, then over the weekend I will install it.

So if I replace the actuator I'll be good to go?

jutn35 07-19-2010 02:39 AM

same exact problem as of right now

Yep

Why can't Nissan design something that last? Especially for something as simple as a door lock mechanism and window motor.

Go figure... but my opinion is that small mechanical parts should be made to last at least 7 years. Since this part is not more than $200 I am ok with it. But if it was more I would be ticked.

Mine is weirder. On hotter days it stops working, but when it cools off, it starts working again. :dunno:

That is how mine is. Some parts inside the actuator expand when it is hot and this prevents them from moving. When it is cold they contract and are able to move. I will open up my old actuator to see if there was any build up inside.

Can anyone direct me to which part I should be looking at replacing? I've never had this type of problem on my Honda, so I'm not sure which part I should be looking at replacing. Thanks!
