Are intake gaskets reusable???? I'm in the middle of my motor swap
I have my old motor out and am about to start assembling the new motor. My intake gaskets are intact and seem to look reusable. Are they??? Can they be reused or should I order new ones.
I don't want any opinion, I want fact. They are made of some sort of aluminum or fiber and are NOT paper gaskets so I am curious if I need new or the old is perfectly fine. Thanks guys |
In my opinion, i will get a new one just to be on safe side. Why half *** now.

Which gaskets are you talking about? If they're going between the exact same parts they came off of, like your original upper and lower plenum covers, then you should probably be fine. But if they're getting sandwiched between unfamiliar parts from the new engine, then I wouldn't do it. And nobody is going to be able to give you a factual answer. There are simply too many variables. If you're going through all the trouble to put in a new motor, then spend the money and get new gaskets, especially since they're coming from a different engine. I'm certain the FSM says to replace them.

I really like the lower copper gaskets that MotorDyne sells with there spacer package but you'll be fine using the OE gaskets. Kinda like the OE exhaust system gaskets, they're far better than the ones found at autoparts stores.

Honestly, it would have taken 3 days to get it, so I put it back together last night with the original gaskets. I figure if they leak then I can EASILY replace them. BUT it started perfectly. No problems.

I am in the same positon after needing to replace knock sensor and harness. Did your put old gaskets back on dry? Still running well for you?
