help cant figure out what's over heating my baby!!
 

Hello, wanted to see if i could get some feedback about my issue. I cant seem to figure out what the hell is making my g35 over heat. I took it to the dealer and had the radiator flushed with new antifreeze, new cap and still doesnt work. The day i took it home from the dealer i had to turn the heater on so the car would not overheat. It seems when i drive my baby around the city is when it gets worse. My baby is a "04" with 81,000 miles so please give me some ideas??:confused2:

Sounds like the old damn air pocket that these engines are famous for.Do you have full heat at idle or only when reving the motor and it sounds like the dealer didnt bleed the system completely.

More then likely a air pocket. Take it back to the dealer. Other things that cause this is a water pump or thermostat,

I was going to guess the thermostat or water pump as well, but air pockets would be an easier fix so I would give that a try first.

Are the fans working? There's a TSB on the radiator fans.

does anybody know if its bad to add water in the coolant canister? Because before flushing the radiator at the dealer, i remember that i went on 4 hour trip in which the coolant was running low and decided to add water at a gas station could this be the result of the problem i have now?

yeah i can hear the fans go on, but havent checked it there running?

I've had just about every overheating problem there is to have for an N/A engine.

Year of your car:
Fan Clutch or Electronic Fans:
Do you see ANY water/coolant leaks anywhere during the morning or after driving the car:
Last time thermostat was changed:
Do you have any water in the oil or oil in the water:
Do you notice overboil in the reserve tank
aka air bubbles in the reservoir during the overheating / coming out of the highway and/or city streets:

When was the last time you changed the radiator cap:

Have you tried bleeding the heater/engine:

Give me these answers and I can then give you a synopsis of how to go about fixing your car.

If you decide to add water to the radiator it should only be distilled water. Tap water has mineral deposits in it that can clog the small openings in your system. That being said you probably didn't put enough in your car to hurt it.

All these suggestions are just swell....:OHBOY: If you had an overheating issue when you took your G35 to the dealership just changing the fluid isn't the fix. If you want to figure this out yourself pull your radiator cap (cold) let you engine warm up and watch to see if your fluid is moving. If you have zero leaks and your fluid isn't moving by the time your fans come on the problem is likely your thermostat. I've had them close up half way so when you hit the highway it would heat up but at slower speeds it was operating normally. A Radiator Shop deals with these issues all the time, maybe that's where you should take the G.

Thanks for all the feedbacks, they where very helpful! I finally found out from a local mechanic shop that it was the thermostat, dame thing kept getting stuck!My g is running cool now!
