Safe to jack the rears up using the spring bucket?
 

Since the jack I'm using isn't long enough to reach the rear differential, I've been using it to jack the rear up right under the spring bucket. Is this locaton safe?

Jacking up the backside I just use the area in front of the rear wheels just before the subframe ends. You can't screw up anything using the subframe, that's also where I position my jackstands. I polished my spring buckets, don't want to damage them....:OHBOY:

garyc, lol i see, i dont care about my spring buckets they're not polished or anything fancy, so would it be okay to use that as a jack point?

you cant fit the oem jack on the subframe ? thats what i had to use
then on the other side i would use a 2 ton jack

gmotion, i was referring to a floor jack, not the oem scissor jacks, those are a pain in the *** and take forever. and nope i cant fit the oem jack under my sides.

ok well i meant i couldnt get a floor jack under mine only the oem and i had another part from my g/fs car that sped up the process i def wouldn't use the buckets though its not actually part of the car its only held in by a few bolts thats just for the spring most of the weight is on the shock i would imagine don't know if thats true

Yea you can raise your car on the rear spring buckets if you want to change your wheel or tires.

why not drive up on wood blocks then lift your car?

I've used the spring buckets a few times... tire lifts off the floor faster!

I always use the rear diff..

HAHA....I've never seen my OE jack but I heard a rumor it's located in the spare tire area. For $100 you can buy a floor jack from Sears that will last you a life time and your kids too. Invest a small amount of $ in something you can always use and will be available without tearing up the trunk....logic? I've never raised my coupe using the spring buckets, I try to go with what the manual recommends....some times. :NOD:

dosent appear to have hurt them

The spring seats are a good place to jack up the rear if you can't get under the diff. The unsprung weight of the rear of the car is all on the spring seats. The shocks do not support any weight or side loads; in fact, that is the difference between a shock compared to a strut.

Never put any part of your body under the car until it is on stands, and even then it is good to have a backup. Wheels under the frame rails make a good backup. Also, Sears sells crappy jacks.
