First off this works!!!-takes three minutes and its FREE! HUGE Thanks to Msedanman for posting this info about reseting your ECU.

I bought a (one owner) 06 AT Coupe with 43K on it. Our cars remember how it is driven so the previous owner must have been very :JUDGE: conservative. After I did this procedure, I immediately noticed a difference in response and the way the AT shifted. :drivingskid: I am sure I am going to notice lower MPG's but I do not care.


1. Turn the ignition to ON and wait (only) 3 seconds- just "ON" (DO NOT START THE CAR) all your dash lights should be on.

2. Floored and released gas/p 5 times within 5 secs.

3. Waited 7 secs then floored gas/p for 10 seconds (or until the engine light starts to blink)

4.Release gas/p

5.Floor and hold gas/p for 10 secs. (engine light should stop blinking)

6. Turn to off position and you are done!

When you start the car it might idle higher than usual. (mine did) After about 70 seconds, it went back to normal. I highly recommend that you let it idle for at least a minute.

P.S. Make sure you are in Park, windows up, sunroof closed. I even put my emergency brake on. It took me five tries before it worked. Depending on who the car is used to, you may not notice the huge difference I did. Good luck guys! :driving:

you know all thats gonna happen now is that the car will go higher up in the rev range before it shifts thus you'll be wasting more gas. It will give you more aggressive performance at the cost of gas, the one thing I like most about doing this is the better shifts.

I did this trick when I first got the car a few years back, and that's pretty much all it did for me, made me waste more gas, which wasnt a good enough trade off for the slight bump in performance... I drive like a granny it took a little while for it to adjust to my driving style again.

I did mine tonight! How long before you noticed the granny/better mpg response come back? Before tonight, I was getting about 21 mpg. Thanks for the input! It should help members decide if they want to do this.

The ECU will learn by itself if you do a lot of spirited driving. I don't bother with the reset procedure because its a PITA.

this is probably a stupid question but if you already have like cobb tuning program or any chip would doing this be obsolete

I just tried it but when I held the pedal down for ten secs to make the engine light stop blinking it just made it blink even faster?

It was a lot easier to reset the ecu on the Acura. Pull a fuse. Wait 5 minutes. Plug it back in. Start the car, let it idle for 10 minutes. (don't step on the gas, make sure AC if off). Shut off and your done.


edit: I might give this a try later today. How would this work on a 6mt?
