Car vibrates when decelerating at high speeds

Hi all,

was wondering if anyone may have an idea what the problem might be. When I'm on the freeway going about 75-80mph (sometimes happens at lower speeds too, like 65-75) and I let go of the gas, the car vibrates and it's pretty noticeable/annoying. It also seems to vibrate more when I release the pedal halfway instead of letting go all the way. So if I'm going around 80mph, then let go of the pedal halfway, it vibrates pretty hard. Any idea what it may be?

Thanks!

Im curious about this as well because the same thing happens with my car. I think it may have something to do with the compression rod bushing

Does the vibration begin when you hit the brake pedal or just when you take your foot off the gas pedal?

This....^....indicates you have warped rotors which can be easily corrected. Warped rotors are generally the result of tire monkeys over tightening your lugs with an impact gun, sad but true!

yes your car should vibrate at all speeds if your rotors are warped. but could be more effective and higher speeds. does the steering wheel shake or does the whole car shake?

hmm... I remember in an old car of mine when i got above a certain mph the steering wheel would shake and that was fixed with an alignment but only when off the gas sounds strange to me :/ i would have the suspension checked out.

If the whole car shakes/vibrates when decelerating I'd have the suspension/alignment checked closely. The warped rotor issue would be felt in the steering wheel first, at speed I've had it move back and forth 2". That's not what you want to experience when trying to stop, that's one of those "What the" moments....Gary

I know the feeling, i will be replacing my brakes soon anyways as my next mod just because, but for now im really convinsed its either a bad strut or a compression rod bushing

I'm having 2 tires replaced today and having my wheels balanced/aligned, so I'll keep you guys updated. My buddy said it could be a drive shaft issue.

Doesn't sound like the brakes to me, and because you only describe the vibrations happening during deceleration I don't think it's got to do with the balance on your wheels/tires... My guess is a bushing or something. I would start there by going to a dedicated suspension shop to see if they notice anything abnormal.

Quick update. Went to the tire shop yesterday to replace my rear tires and they found one of my wheels were bent, so that most likely explains the vibration. Time to go shopping for some new wheels! Got any deals for 18x8 and 18x8.5 staggered setup, VMR?
