problem shifting into first gear.

Sometimes i need to hit it hard to hit 1st gear.
All others is really easy to shift into. Is everyone like this or is it just me?

I assume you mean it's hard to shift into 1rst when the car is moving? Pretty much all manual tranny cars are like that. You can try rev matching and it should help you to get it into 1rst a little easier when the car is in motion.... but really, there's not much need to even use first unless you're coming from a dead stop.

Anything above 2 or 3 MPH, just use 2nd gear.

push the clutch in twice and itll pop into first easier if ur in motion

LightsOut 11-10-2010 04:26 PM

are you downshifting to first gear?

saywat? 11-10-2010 04:42 PM

^im assuming its when hes still rolling but almost to aa dead stop. if not then incase he didnt kno u should never downshift to first

DrastiiK 11-10-2010 05:37 PM

I hope you are talking about putting it into 1st from a complete stop. If you are already rolling, like what has already been stated, just keep it in 2nd. 1st should only be used when coming from a dead stop.

Are you parked on a steep incline and trying to put it in gear? That'll make the shift trickier as well.

ok here are the details.
i got a 06 coupe.

at a dead stop im tryna hit 1st gear and sometimes i need to push it hard in order to go to 1st gear, and all other gears are really smooth to shift to. Dont know if all G's 1st gear is the same

like others have said. double press the clutch then try.

LightsOut 11-11-2010 11:15 AM

fast n furious.

dont you know you should always dbl clutch.

Fairly New to the shifting gang here I've driven stick before but not my car and now I got one of my own and mine doing the same thing having a hard time getting to first at red lights trying to get moving again just wondering if that's normal and also if there is any tips y'all could give.

From a standstill it should be easy to get into 1st gear, if you're still rolling to a stop it's difficult if you aren't rev-matching.

If you're having a problem getting into 1st gear from a standstill then first change the transmission fluid (or just do it anyways, service interval is 20k miles for 6MT) and if it doesn't make any difference then start saving for a transmission rebuild because your synchro's are probably shot.

The biggest mistake I see folks make when they're new to a manual transmission is downshifting to slow the vehicle, that's what your brakes are for.

Second biggest mistake is not rev-matching.

Third biggest mistake is slipping the clutch.

Okay so my car has 160xxxkm on it the car runs great every other gear shifts like butter I just noticed it today when I went to go leave for schoo.l and if I'm moiving even a tiny bit your saying it will be hard if I dknt rev match?

I just bought the car I'll check the transmission fluid.

cleric670 03-11-2019 07:59 PM

Don't CHECK the fluid, CHANGE the fluid. It has a certain life expectancy just like every other fluid in the car.
