Considering 3 G Coupes...Feedback Please!!!
Whats up guys, name's Chris. I am a huge fan of this community and the G Coupe and am excited to soon be joining the forum not only as a G enthusiast but also as a G driver but I need your help. (I find myself on here more often than Facebook and I dont even have the G yet!!)
I am in the market for a coupe from 03-05 but mainly focusing on 04-05. I went on cars.com and pretty much narrowed down my choices to 3 according to my budget (Max 15k). Here are the links:
1) 2005 5AT DGM Coupe w/ Rays, Spoiler, Nav (Fully Loaded) $12,995
http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...5&aff=national
I am a bit hesitant to buy this because of the navigation although to me its the top choice and the cleanest looking. I plan on installing an aftermarket audio system (with backup camera and the works) and I hear that if the car has Navi it becomes a bit more difficult because you would have 2 screens and you could lose some AC Controls. (Im not 100% sure, but thats why I'm here asking for help). The NAV is the only thing stopping me from buying this car.
2) 2004 5AT DGM Coupe w/ Spoiler $11,900
http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...5&aff=national
Right now Im leaning towards this one because it looks really clean. Rims dont matter to me since I plan on getting new ones anyway. Its just a normal G coupe and it is ideal because I wouldnt have any problem installing the sound system.
3) 2003 5AT DGM Coupe w/ Nav & Aftermarket OEM Spoiler $13,900 (3rd Brake Light doesnt look flush to me)
http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...5&aff=national
The reason why I have this option is because of the lower miles...this one has 57xxx miles on it while the other 2 have almost double. Again its just another average G Coupe.
Sorry for the really long post guys but I know you guys appreciate detail when a newbie is asking questions. Obviously I am a fan of DGM coupes lol. But I also want to include what i plan on upgrading in this car so that you guys can implement that into your feedback and take it into consideration. Just to let you know I am not about racing and speed (although I may use it just to listen to the VQ purr) but more about looks and aesthetics which is why I went with the G.
Upgrades:
Wheels and Tires
Sound System (x920bt HU w/ speakers and 2 Amps)
Darker Tint
06+ headlight and tailight
Thats all I can think about now. But I am very open to suggestions.
I am proud to be apart of the community (not fully YET but soon lol). I appreciate in advance the help you guys give me and congrats on being such a successful community. Thanks again.

All three of your links are dead. Also, do not request for vehicle information involving VIN numbers. It is against the forum rules.

^^^Thanks and fixed the links...in the process of fixing the second link I found that the dealership drop the price by 1K from the Second G...so now it is down to 10.9K. Just food for thought.
What's up Chris.
To me, I'd only buy the ones with over 100K if they have maintenance records. I didn't look to see if they were private sellers or dealers...but 100K is a lot of miles if they don't have any records. Granted these cars are supposed to last forever too. Also, if they need brakes/tires anytime soon those are big expenses.
I might be blind/crazy or it may be the lighting but the 04 for $10.9k looks like the paint might not match. To me it looks like the rear bumper/pass. side quarter panel don't match as well as the gas door looks darker. Maybe it's just the pics but I'd definitely have it checked out if it looks like that in person. Run the carfax or autocheck before you buy any of them, just in case something is on there.
Good luck man!

I tried to check out the links but no luck. Anyhow, 100k miles on this car sounds like a lot. Make sure you look at the history and service records. Maintaning this vehicle is not cheap. Also, have you ever thought about getting a 6MT? I had both 5AT and the 6MT now, and I honestly can say that the manual transmission is sooo much more fun to drive. Good luck on your search, and try other car slaes network, maybe some adds, or the market place here. I am sure that you can find a deal....
in my opinion i would just spend another 4k or 5k and get something with less miles...
if they are selling this cars for such a low price i wounder what would a dealership give you for a trade-in price....it will be close to nothing...just something to think about

In this case, you probably will end up throwing some mods onto this car.

It has 57K miles on it and its pretty much the same exact car with Navigation and in pretty good condition. But thanks for the feedback.

I dont know if your from NYC but assuming your not, you wouldnt even begin to consider an MT. the traffic here is ridiculous, day in day out bumper to bumper traffic so ill stick with an auto...but i do know how fun it is to drive a manual. I learned in one and its incredible.
^ Op, if you are set on getting a 5AT, go for it. Get what you really want, you can always engage the sport tronic shifter... All I can say is try to get a G with less miles than 100k. Look around and you will find something. GL....
First off, DA KIID, no worries regarding the long post. I own the title of King Author Long Post, no pun intended. I can type some long, I say informative, sh.....stuff.
Watch.
And considering you don't even have the car (yet), a solid welcome aboard is in order. Sounds like you love these glorified 350Z 2+2s every bit as much as I do; took me 3-4 years to get my own, but it was inevitable.
Just in case you're wondering, I love this mothershutchyomouth even more now.
Thus, 'fore I tell you which I'd choose if I were you, I will feed you back some of my experiences. I'll have you a-- a the dealer tomorrow!!!
Anyway, I am still learning stuff about and enjoying the manual mode. Even at just 280/270 (hp & torque #s) - while some power junkie will comment otherwise - this car is somewhat of a beast.
(Within reason, Horsepower Nuts.......I know we aint that damn fast).
BUT, certainly fast by today's standards (according to Car/Driver or M/T), albeit "borderline". Not quite a 4.__ second neck breaker, but the VQ35's mid range torque will put you back in your seat.
Hits the 1/4 mile at over 100 mph (100.5), and I can do 0-60 in 5.5 or 5.6 all day long.
Fine, the VQ35/37 is always said to unrefined and/or rough when compared to the BMW Inline-6.........one of the 2 most inherently balanced engines in existence (along with V12s).
I'll concede that point the critics all day long, which begs the question. Isn't BMW "Bavarian MOTOR Works"......an engine company by trade, definition, and origin?
However, beginning with the 3.0 liter VQ in 1994, it wasn't on Ward's Top Ten Engine list for it's 1st 14 years of existence for nuthin.
You tired of reading?
It is a good powertrain if you learn your gearing and don't run the revs up too high, too fast. For best results, restrain your hooliganism, KIID.
But once you get upwards of 4000-4500-5000 RPM........the sneaky-fastness comes out. Picks up speed hard & fast.
That's part of the fun of the manual. At 30 MPH the auto (D mode) has you in 4th gear already, but pauses 'fore it downshifts if you smash the gas for a quick lane change & pass.
A good 1-2 second pause, which you get used to if you only drove in auto for 2-3 years like I did. I guess the onboard computers are trying to read what you wanna do, but there's a better way.
At 45-50 mph in manual mode, to make a quick pass around slower traffic, a healthy foot on the gas + quick manual downshift to 3rd gear (then essentially flooring it) will have you running at 70-75 mph in 3rd surprisingly soon........at maybe 5500 rpm. You'll figure out the proper shift timing.
Upshift to 4th and she keeps running. Hard.
TRANSLATION: Every single time, every single day, I look forward to driving this "G".
Wish I had pull-push paddle shifters, preferably operational with either hand and a proper DTM-like racing setup on the console - pull upshift/push downshift - with the dog-leg sequential manual.........even with a clutch to engage 1st gear only.
But that's so far from a dealbreaker not even worth mentioning.......although I did. Of course, the Right-up/Left-down Formula 1-like setup is okay.
Anyway, I have an 06 coupe with the revised interior, but I don't have a problem with 2003 and 2004 models.
(I think 2005 models 1st got the interior refresh. And why are the biggest ***** that we use the most - on/off/volume and temperature control - on the right side of the car? If I could only switch the steering column.)
Not to mention, in 4 years I still have less than 27K - about 26,700....with ALL my maintenance & upgrade documents in date order in a folder.
So, needless to say, I would opt for the lower mileage model -- assuming you can get the real car facts.
Now, I'm done. Seeyah when ya back with the car.
He gone!
