DISAPPOINTED in my coupe

I was racing a benz E-class tonight, don't know if it was a 320 or a 430 older body not the new ones. I was on my way home from barns and noble. The benz approched me really quikly from behide, so poped it in 3rd and guned it...he kept up with me no problem all the way to about 125mph I then slowed down because of traffic. the dude flyes passed me on the left turn and gets in front of me...I was so pissed. I got stuck in back of somebody, could not pass him up because of all the traffic. WTF..... My father had that same car its not all that fast. When I had my bmw 330ci I would eat benzs for and dinner...easly ate E-classes and clk's like they were nothing...Ever since day one with my g I felt like it was a little slower than my bmw330ci....why? both were stik and sport pakage. WHY? WHY? WHY? is because I baby the car. I dont drive as fast as I did in my bmw? ECU?

Re: DISAPPOINTED in my coupe

I'm gonna guess that he probably had mods.

I don't know any stats on the E-class but mods can be stealth on any car. If you don't know the person you are racing, you don't know what he's packing.

Re: DISAPPOINTED in my coupe

1.) A 330Ci will not out-accelerate an E430.

2.) It may have been an E55 AMG.

3.) Japanese engines work differently from German engines. Japanese give you all the torque and horsepower at higher rpm's. Keep your Coupe in the 4K-6.6K powerband and it will be a beast. You have to drive the car properly to make it fast.

A 330i tried to pull away from me going into an expressway
one time, but I was inching up on him... so it is definitely
not much faster than our cars.

Re: DISAPPOINTED in my coupe

Doesn't surprise me. When I was in college, my room-mate had a heavily modded 95 M3'. It was loaded with everything available at the time, except for a supercharger. (It was able to beat my other room-mates mildly modded Supra Twin Turbo.)

Anyways, on the 10 freeway onetime, there was a newish Benz S600. We were going about 110+, and the Benz actually walked us. My friend's friend had a modded Benz E500 that was also able to walk the heavily modded M3.

Those benzes have lots of power up top. Once we hit the S-Curves on the 10 freeway though, we smoked the Benz...

1) 330ci will out-accelerate e430
2) It may have been 500E older bodies wich i think is very rare (and they are FAST!!)
3) What octane did u have in you'r G?
4)If he was coming at higher speed from behind you would have a hard time keeping up with even E320, Cause you'r car cant go from lets say 65 to 80 in a second.

Re: DISAPPOINTED in my coupe

Also, maybe you put it in the wrong gear? Depending on your speed, maybe downshifting to 2nd would have been the best choice unless you were going over 60. Also, what klubbheads said...if the guy was already accelerating and you started with less momentum, then it's going to take a lot more hp to actually start walking away since he has the head start.

In reponse to a few posts:

-A recent year Mercedes S600 is a twin turbo V12, of course it is fast:
Net Power: 493 hp @ 5,000 rpm
Net Torque: 590 lb-ft @ 1,800 - 3,500 rpm
Acceleration: 0-60 mph in 4.6 seconds

-If you drive a 6MT and have trouble beating a 330i (non-ZHP)then you need a lesson in driving, it's not faster than our cars.

There are two generations of the E55. The current model (03-up: supercharged and badass) and the previous (late 90's - N/A but still badass).

i've only seen the newer one. there's one that parks next to me everyday at work and it's a really hot car. the 2nd gen is definetly more popular then the older one.

the older model E55 had somewhere around 350 hp so yeah, those cars would walk us too. =P

Re: DISAPPOINTED in my coupe

Specifications 500E (1992-94)

Horsepower@rpm 322@5700
Torque lb-ft@rpm 354@3900
Curb Weight, lb 3919
0-60 mph, sec 6.3
1/4 mile, sec@mph 14.7@96.9
60-0 mph, ft 116 600 ft
slalom, mph 61.0
Top Speed, mph 155

Developed in conjunction with Porsche, the Mercedes 500E was based on the popular 300E model which had been released in 1986. Each 500E was transported back and forth between the Mercedes plant and Porsche's Rossle-Bau plant in Zuffenhausen during assembly and hand built, taking a full 18 days to complete each model. It was produced between 1992-94 in which time approximately 7200 cars were built.

Besides a totally new engine, the 500E was also equipped with a hydraulic self-leveling suspension, 11.8 inch vented discs in the front and 10.9 inchers in the back, wider wheels and tires and shorter and stiffer springs which lowered the 500E nearly an inch over the 300E. While the resulting slalom time is nothing to boast about (61 mph), the 500E still manages a healthy 0.84g on the skidpad and a sports-car-like 116 ft stopping distance. The engine was the same unit used in the 500SL but with a Bosch LH Jetronic fuel injection replacing the KE Jetronic and a redesigned intake manifold with longer runners that resulted in an additional 22 lb-ft of torque over that powerplant. The four speed automatic transmission and rear axle were also sourced from the 500SL and the 500E was also equipped with standard ASR (traction control). While there was no factory option for an override switch, many aftermarket tuners could provide this, lowering 0-60 mph times into the 5 second ranges. There were a few other slight faults with the 500E as well. The single windshield wiper arm was not very efficient and the interior ergonomics were less than perfect while for the price, the 500E could still not deliver the same amount of all-out performance as the E34 M5.

The Mercedes was however an excellent Autobahn cruiser and could deliver a ride comfort and effortless power delivery at higher speeds in a manner that even the BMW M5 could not match.
