Short Run with a 645Ci Convert

Hey,

I was sitting at a light, where it's two lanes but turns into one lane immediately. I was in the right lane, Escalade on my left in the left lane, and this lady in a 645Ci Convertible (top down) behind the Escalade. Light turned green and I let the Escalade go. I was expecting to get in behind the Escalade (figured 645 lady would just let me in...I was passive, but not that passive). I look in my left side-view mirror and the 6 was nowhere to be found, and all of a sudden it was right next to me. At this point, I am in 2nd gear @ 3K rpm, I give it a little more gas but then all of a sudden 645 lady floors her ugly car, as I hear the tranny kick down a gear and the V8 rumble to life. Lucky for me, I was just entering the G's "sweet spot". I put the pedal to the metal and the G roared as it entered the high revs, and I out-accelerated the car just in time to squeeze in front of her....upshifted at 6K rpm and slowed backed down to 30mph (it was a 25 zone).
That 645Ci Convertible was fast...damn fast, but the G was still faster. If it was the 645Ci Coupe, it may have been a different story...

Thanks,
MrElussive

Convertible usually are heavier due to the machinary operating the roof.

Re: Short Run with a 645Ci Convert

coupes typically weigh more due the the structural reinforcements needed to keep the body stable and the parts needed to operate the top.

Re: Short Run with a 645Ci Convert

Thanks guys.

Convertibles usually weigh more because the companies have to beef up the platform and everything for better structural rigidity. You lose A LOT of rigidity/handling performance when you make the car a convertible, and these companies make the platform itself much stronger and thicker stabilizer bars among other things to compensate. Plus, convertibles have more wind resistance than its coupe form (especially with the top down).

So basically, this lady had a convertible + auto + top down and my G was able to take her car at the end of 2nd gear. Mad props to the lady (she looked in her 50's), she had some balls!
As for my run with the car, my accident was not due to any form of wreckless driving (in fact if I had made the turn fast, I would have been free and clear of the accident). This little run I had pretty much came out of nowhere, I was actually driving very chilled out (as I always do), but as soon as I heard her floor it, my blood was stirring and conditions were permitting, and I just couldn't back down to this lady, lol.

Haha, no worries dude. When I read your post I figured you typed 'Coupe' by accident. I was actually to mention in my previous post, "I think KingOfJericho meant to say Convertible" lol =P
