G35 Won't Start

Hi All,

I have a 2005 G35 Coupe MT. I replaced my battery a month ago because the OEM one died. After that, everything was smooth. I drove it around that weekend before I had to go on a business trip for 3 weeks. When I came back, I tried to start the car and it wouldn't start.

All the lights, radio, alarm still work. When I try to crank it, all I hear is a 'click', like something is trying to catch onto something.

My guess is that it's the starter or the alternator since I just replaced the battery a month ago. Anyone have any input?

How much is a reasonable price for an OEM Starter or OEM Alternator?

Thanks!

how many miles ? im guessing the battery was faulty because of the click, should be under warranty so swap it out

check starter, fuel pump, maybe fuel filter, injectors/plugs, etc.. just a few things off the top of my head..
maybe battery still but not sure.

And if its the battery, check the alternator.

Jump the car, take it to autozone (or whatever you have in your area) have them test the battery and the altenator. Do you have any amps or aftermarket system hooked up? check the remote connections if so.

I tried to jump the car with no luck. It has 61,000 miles on it.

Again, the new battery is 4 weeks old...

i also saw this post:

sounds fishy.

Check the battery terminal connectors for oxidation.

also.., i cant move my car at the moment so that would require towing.. i would like to figure out if this is something that i can fix on my own with tools at my company parking lot OR just tow it to a shop

i dont think it would be worth towing the car to autozone

a friend of mine looked at the car last night and said that it could be the alternator because my battery died 4 weeks ago and i had to replace it. initially, i didnt think anything of it because its my first battery replacement. after driving it around and it wont start..., he thinks its the alternator and if not, its the starter...

does anyone know where the alternator is located? how much it costs about (i saw about 200-250) and how difficult it is to replace. (DIY Guide appreciated)

Thanks everyone for their input!

hey, i checked the battery terminals and tightened them. they look ok.

TannerG Mar 2, 2011 04:38 PM

You checked the inside of the rings? The part that actually touches the battery terminals?

blown420 Mar 2, 2011 04:40 PM

ya i checked inside the rings and they look normal..

TannerG Mar 2, 2011 04:43 PM

OK. Have you tried push starting the car? If it was the alternator, you'd still be able to jump start it BTW.

good point. thanks TannerG.:)

this happened to my corolla before and the problem was the 02 sensor... check that?

fast clicking seems like dead battery. What caused it is another question.
