I'm Getting an M3 tommorw
 

I'm getting a silver 05' M3 tommorow morning with the SMG II tranny whats everyones opinon on this system I'm pretty impressed with it after test driving it it's alot more involved and responsive then the G's auto (btw I'm keeping the G also) and I was wondering if there is any way to make our cars feel that way? The M3 is gonna be a toy pretty much but I'd still wan't the G to act much the same way when I drive it.

Yeah man yesterday I bought myself new apple ipod, yep it is going to be a toy for me, I can make it more responsive by twisting the wheel faster!

hmmm I bought me a pair of ADDIDAS running shoes today.

my friend and his wife bought themselves a benzito C230 white with ash interior traded in their 04 so i was like ok i'm going to buy something for myself too..

post pics of your M3...i'd love to test drive one...i might consider a used one a few years for now...

our company just bought a chevy express 12 passenger van so that's going to be my commuter car mon - friday beginning in jan 2005...hmmmm maybe i should pimp out the passenger van...lol

wow.....for a 19 year old to be able to afford a coupe and then a m3 a year later, you must be a true pimp or a parachute kid from taiwan: ) but nice.....the 3-series are due for a style change soon though. i wonder when are the m3's are going to be redesigned too?

SMG is really a cool feature I almost got one last August but couldn't get the price I wanted for it. I was suppose to get the Silver Stone Metallic with Milano Red interior and 19" wheels. The one I was getting didn't have a sunroof and no power seats for added lightness. HK sound system is awesome it will put the Bose of the G into shame. Having the SMG feature is like learning how to drive a car all over again. It will take some getting use to but I bet once you get the hang of it it will be mucho fun to use. Goodluck, I know you are going to have lots of fun with it.

congrates. anyway the m3's smg transmission is a different transmission design than your auto. its closer to a manual in design actually.. the only difference is that the clutch and shifter are hydraulically actuated. so there's no real way to get an AT transmission to act that fast and that sharp.. then again, AT transmissions tend to be smoother (w/ the possible exception of the latest DSG trannies)

Fellow BMW owner here (here is my 330 that REALLY want to be an M3!) and one that too wants an M3!! I have driven quite a few M3's, SMG and manual.
My .02: Consider waiting for the 06, there is nothing worse than having an outdated body style after the first year, plus the resale is bound to plummet as well, especially since you are buying new! SMG???? Get the manual and if you do get the '05, first mod needs to be a short shifter, never did understand why the current M3 gearbox is soooo HUGE and tall, I am sure they will cure that with the new one?

Either way you go, RIGHT ON, I LOVE the M3, it is an impressive vehicle!

Be a real man, and get the M3 in stick. You already have an auto Coupe, if the M3 is just gonna be a 'toy', so you might as well just get stick shift. If you're getting the M3 in SMG because you can't drive stick and you're not willing to learn, then the M3 is not the car for you.

Let me throw in my 2 cents on SMG:
It's a really great system, it shifts faster than a person can and it allows you to downshift and brake easily (without heel-and-toe technique like on a full manual), and the lack of clutch control makes the car really easy to live with on a daily basis. The auto mode with the 5 DriveLogic settings is not that good, but manual shift mode is how you're always supposed to be driving it and it works extremely well and feels very sporty. SMG really is an amazing transmission (better performance AND better practicality) but there is really something special about rowing your own gears and having full clutch control.....

I am truely jealous of your "toy"! I tried everything to get one and get out of my car or even into a coupe, i just couldnt do it :( Have fun with it, if you need any help or info go to e46fanatics.com or even ask me, im well rounded with knowing about cars HAHA since i love the M and all! Anyway did you get the competition package or which one that was new for the 05? And also the launch control system is very good, i just hope they raised the launch control rev limit from 2k rpm up higher, the smg will be unbeatable in any race though compared to a 6 speed without a PEFECT driver! Have fun =)

Yea its a new option that BMW offers now, i dont think its anything major or with performance for that matter, but let me try and find out exactly whats in it!

Ok just got it a few hours ago from bob smith bmw 04' silver on black wit SMG all option's except nav & cold weather package. I'll post pics later

iLLG35, I don't see this package anywhere on the BMW web site for the M3! Are you sure you're not thinking of the Performance Package for the 330i/Ci models???
