First REAL impression of the G's handling?
I have had some experience running the 350z through the twisties and what fun that is! I have not have a chance to run my G through the twisties since I did the suspension and the wheels, but this morning I did :)! For those So Cal boys familiar with Ortega highway, I had an open run up the backside (which is almost unheard of) and what fun it was. Dropping the car on H-techs and installing the 19's made an enourmous difference in body roll and traction. When on the street, I ALWAYS take the safer "slow in, fast out" approach, but nonetheless got a great impression that this car has real handling capabilities! The car had almost zero understeer, very little body roll and no tire roll. The Toyo T1s's made zero noise when pushed except for a slight hum when I decided to induce some oversteer on the throttle (VDC off of course). With the springs, the car has almost no "wallow" effect you get with the stock springs and height, the car just seemed to hunker down the faster I went and that really added to my confidence level over what I experienced driving the car at a moderate pace totally stockI have driven this road for 15 years (mostly on a motorcycle) and this was one of the most fun times I have had.....honestly! I can't wait to add sway bars and a few more ponies, I sure wish I could find a way to stuff my tall *** in this car with a helmet on, but I really think that would be impossible, but after that fun 7 mile jaunt, I really want to take this to the track now!

Re: First REAL impression of the G's handling?
You can go even faster with swaybars.... especially
with your tires, you probably should. :) 2004 G35C 6MT Brilliant Silver S-Tech front / Pro-kit rear / Stillen Camber Rods / Stillen Rear Swaybar http://www.geocities.com/ken350gt/sm...ow.side.dr.jpg |
Re: First REAL impression of the G's handling?
I have heard that we really only need to replace the rear sway bar and not the front.......can you offer your opinion on that theory? Thanks

Re: First REAL impression of the G's handling?
Very inspiring story roadracer! I'm considering a setup very similar to yours and just wanted to clarify a couple of things. I assume you're runngin the 350z h-techs? Also, are you conserned about needing to replace your shocks later w/ these springs only? Finally did you need to get anything to correct for your camber after lowing? Thanks for the help!

Re: First REAL impression of the G's handling?
I am actually running G35 H-Techs and I did not have to do any camber kits front or rear! I have had the car aligned three times since the install to be sure and it is still in spec! Regarding shocks, I am not too concerned reallly, these OE's work pretty well, but aftermarket good ones would be optimal but not for the money at this point for me?

Re: First REAL impression of the G's handling?
I'd add a strut brace up front and a fatter rear bar if I was to make any changes. Of course, tuning your ride to your favorite roads is the optimal idea. Unless your plan is to track it competitively, you may want to make it adjustable to account for changing track conditions.

Re: First REAL impression of the G's handling?
I hear what you are saying as I am pretty used to "setup" on motorcycles for the track, but this car for me means real world performance first and all out performance second! I want the car to be nice to "just drive", but at the same time have the right ingredients in place for those times I am feeling frisky and want to be a bit of a hooligan! I really would like to do a few track events, but due to my 6'6" frame, I have literally NO room for a helmet in the stock cabin, maybe if I installed a race seat? Are there front strut braces that will fit under the stock hood? I will be doing sway bars for sure!

Re: First REAL impression of the G's handling?
roadracer- it really depends on your setup and what type of
driving you are looking for if you need both front and rear swaybars or not. For the kind of driving I do (spirited on occasion, street-only) with the spring rates of my choice, I decided that I only needed to change the rear swaybar and use the softest setting (Stillen). Now, if you plan to track your car and since you have wider and probably grippier tires than stock, you can steup your front swaybar as well. Really depends on how much headroom you have remaining on your tire's grip. If I had wide grippy tires, I would use both the front and rear swaybars and start at soft setting on the front, medium on the rear and go from there. 2004 G35C 6MT Brilliant Silver S-Tech front / Pro-kit rear / Stillen Camber Rods / Stillen Rear Swaybar http://www.geocities.com/ken350gt/sm...ow.side.dr.jpg |
