Installed H&R springs, car's much lower than expected
 

Hey everyone, I searched the forums as much as I could to find an answer to this. And yes, I looked at the thread that lists all spring rates/heights but I couldn't find an answer.

I just lowered my car with H&R springs. Tirerack listed the sport springs to lower the car by about 1.25". But I believe my car's been lowered over 2" atleast. I love the handling but I honestly wasn't expecting it to be that low and the ride is pretty harsh now. My question is has anyone else here dropped their car with H&Rs. How much was the drop?

I have an 06 6MT coupe so it comes with a sports suspension.

I do not have these springs, so I cannot comment on the drop. However, if you are not satisfied with the harshness I wouldn't necessarily attribute that to the drop. I think normally the comfort of the ride is related to the spring rates / stiffness of your set up.

O ok but since the springs are not adjustable, what can be done to lessen the harshness?

I should mention that I did not change the shocks yet. Currently its on OEM shocks which I know is not a good idea. Will putting aftermarket shocks like Konis help with the harshness?

I have the H&R sport springs. The fronts are lower than I expected but I wish the rears were about 1/2" lower. I had a little rubbing in the fronts until I did a slight pull and I rolled the rears even though they didn't really need it but now I will be able to get some good flush offset wheels and not worry about rubbing at all.

I had them on mu last car (2003 S2000) and loved the ride and drop so I got them for the G. I'm on stock shocks also but had the regular, non sport suspension and like the ride a lot. I'm also on OEM 18's with SPC A-arms and rear camber arms.

Did you measure before/after for your height?

Welcome to the lowered world. Ride is harsher.

hello friend, it sounds to me as if you might have recieved an incorrect packeage, please check immediately to make sure you did not receive the sedan springs as i think they shall lower more than coupe springs if im not mistaken, also i think the harsh ride you speak of is possibility because you have not replaced the stock shocks but of that i am not positive thanks for your time

U might have gotten 350z springs which lowers approximately .5" more on a g IIRC...

Make sure you got the right springs...if not, get the right springs and get better shocks. You don't want to be bouncing dangerously around the highways!

Wait till it gets settled, it will go down even more.

Do the spring mount mod and cut 1/2" off. You'll be at your perfect height. :biggthumpup:

Absolutely not true for all lowered cars; for a lot, yes. I'm dropped 3" in a sedan on Tanabe Pro 5s and the ride is smoother and eminently more fun to drive than the stock sports suspension,



Sadly you are mistaken. Nothing from the sedan will drop anything lower than coupe parts.

OP you could go to adjustable shocks where you can change the dampening but it won't fix your issue completely, just make it a little better. By then though between the springs and shocks you'll have spent as much as a decent set of coilovers would cost. That's the direction you should go. You'll have a totally adjustable suspension with springs and shocks that were built to work together.

Yes, I measured the space between the front tire and fender and same for the rear tires before having the springs installed. And I got the springs from Tirerack so I'm pretty sure they're the right ones.


Now that baffles me! How can a 3" drop make the car smoother? Thats a coilover kit right? I had considered coilovers but couldn't find anything decent below $1500.

If I had to go for new shocks which ones should I get, considering my situation.

for under 1500, you could get BC Racing or Stance coils, and i think a huge portion of the board run either one of those coil overs. even myself

if i was to just get shocks, i'd get koni yellows. never had them myself, but read enough feedback to spend my
money on them.

Im on H&R's with spc camber kits front n rear. back lowered about an inch. front dropped about 2.25". Im ok with it tho lol
Heres some pics right after install. They settled about 1/4-1/2" since these.
